Serving humanity’s pressing need p y steadfastly standing still? ■—Helen Tate D’Aboy. 29. Offered through the Spirit “Who through the eternal Spirit ot. fered himself” (Heb. 9:14). I would have expected it to have been Said that Christ offered Himself through the pains of the flesh. Nay, but in God’s sight, this was not His offering. The deepest part of His offering was invisible; it was the surrender of His will. The gift which He presented to the Father was not His pain but Him self—His willingness to suffer. What the Father loved was rather the pain lessness than the pain. —George Matheson. Our Jealous God “Thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God” (Ex. 34:14). 30.

or in mind? Let Christ-love be the master passion of our lives. —Ji R. Miller. Do Not Murmur “D o 'all things without murmurings” (Phil. 2:14). But there are many Christians who are not content. They are forever com plaining, criticizing, finding fault, and murmuring. A murmuring Christian is never a happy Christian; in fact he .causes those with whom he comes in' contact to be unhappy. A murmuring, complaining child in the home will bring more distraction and nerve strain to the parent than a great effort expended for the normal, happy child.—D. J. MacKay. Vision “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord” (Ex. 14:13). Have you ever dreamed of yourself as a bridge—- Impartial, dependable, wise— Giving support to all who have need, To every one, view of the skies; ' Spanning the space ’twixt heaven and man With purpose, patience, and praise; Knowing God’s plan has a place for one’s life, A definite use for one’s days; Being of service by being a path Used by God’s holy will; 27. 28. .

is gone, as if it were of no use to read the Scriptures when we do not enjoy them. In order to enjoy the Word, we ought to continue to read it. The less we read the Word of God, the less we desire to read it.—George Muller. The Sin of Envy “For he knew that for envy they had delivered him” (Matt. 27:1$). If you have ever considered envy a light thing, just a peccadillo and not a really bad sin, let this statement for ever disabuse your mind of a very per ilous misconception. . . . That is a revela tion of the length to which envy will go. Now envy is a terribly common sin. It infects even Christian workers. . . . But no Christian should ever forget that envy was the sin that finally led to.the crucifixion of the Lord of glory. —Frank E. Gaebelein. A Master Passion “Love suffereth long, and is kind” (1 Cor. 13:4, R. V.). ' Think what it would mean if we were to, live together in this patient and for bearing way as Christians. Do we not too easily grow weary of the dullness of those we ought to help? Do we not chafe at the slowness of those who are walking with us? Do we not fail in sympathy with those who are weak and faint, with those who are feeble in body 25. 26. THE MYSTERY OF MAR SABA By J . H. If God think much of you, He will have you near Him, or else He Will make you miserable. He will not per mit you to rejoice except in Himself. If your love is not worth His having, you may love whom you will; but when He loves you much, He will be jealous over you; and if He finds you are content to be without His company, He will make you suffer for such wantonness. —Charles Haddon Spurgeon.
