The Institute’s many-sided service to youth and to Christ’s church is to be made known also this summer through the speaking engagements planned for Kenneth M. Monroe, Dean of the school. (See page 225 for itinerary.) Membership in the Prayer Circle is open to all who wish to enroll by choosing a specific hour for prayer each week and notifying the Secretary, Miss Christina J. slona. Repeat together certain passages. Talk about their meaning. Mark in the individual Bibles all verses that are learned. Those that are especially out standing, print out on a fairly good-sized paper or card and put in a conspicuous place (near the dining table is good), referring to them at certain times. A verse a week thus memorized by the whole family means fifty-two in a year. They become stock-m-trade for future reference. Have you experimented with noter books in your family get-together? They are an excellent means of retain ing good thoughts, verses learned, songs memorized, and pictures illustrating points. Let the children take pride in making them attractive. Be sure to look them over, commending where you can, or suggesting improvement. Free hand drawings, even though crude, aid the memory. This book furnishes a means of reference for the weekly quiz. Now I hear you ask, “Quiz ? What’s that?" Let me explain. You know that most school children do not like to get up at the regular time Saturday morn ings. To give variety in place of the five-day program, let them have a writ ten test of from five to ten questions on the work of that week. The zest and enthusiasm you show toward this quiz will largely determiné the chil dren’s response. The questions should be answered before breakfast, so should not be too difficult. greater degree than what he hears. One mother who reared a fine Christian family made a point of having each of her four children say something about the subject under consideration. She called it “expatiating.” All four turned out to be leaders in Christian teaching. You probably will be asking now* “What shall we teach ?” I believe that children should become acquainted with all the leading characters of the Bible, so that when a name is mentioned, they will have a fairly good idea of the story and the spiritual meaning of that life. As this knowledge is acquired, parents and children can discuss the value of these characters to the world. The'life and teachings of the Saviour should be a continual study, resulting at the earliest possible moment in lives sui> rendered to Him. In addition, I should stress memori zation of, or at least familiarity with, choice passages and verses of Scrip ture. You may ask, “Do you consider the devotional period a proper time to commit to memory?” , Yes and no.
