her stand for Christ. With sorrow of heart we had to drop their names, not knowing what else ,to do. However, about a year ago the Lord enlarged the work and a new visitor went out to see this family. Condi tions had changed very much. Reverses had come and the father was very ill and the young daughter was exceedingly anxious about him, saying one day, “Oh, it makes me tremble to think of that lake of fire and my father not saved.” Though she had not accepted Christ herself she was so greatly burdened that she was even praying for her father’s salvation. Their Jewish friends had not proven true and in their time of deep need their hearts were melted by the ministry of our missionary nurse, and in due time the daughter’s prayers were an swered and her father fell asleep in Jesus. A few days later Dora herself came to our house to tell us that she too had ac cepted Christ. With radiant face she told us and said, “I am a new born one, every thing looks different. Oh! I am so happy! I’ve been telling everyone.” She even went to a neighbor who dislikes the Jews and said, “I know you don’t like the Jews but I want to tell you that I’ve accepted Jesus- Christ as my Saviour, and He was a Jew.” Of course they became friends and Dora said, “Well this seems to make me right with the other half of the world but I don’t know how it will be with my own half now.” A few days afterward, having con fessed Christ to her husband she said, “Won’t you accept Him too?” And he re plied, ‘Not now, I’ll watch you awhile first.” Pray that, her life may be so sweet and so consistent that she may not only win him but the other’ members of this large family to Christ.

A bout three years ago, owing to the pres sure of new work, I dropped from my visit ing list a number of Jewish families whom I had visited for a number of, years, feeling that I had given them my testimony and had dealt with them as faithfully as I could and believing that now I should witness to others who had not heard the true story o f Jesus. But God has said and we are proving it true that “as the rain cometh down and the snow from heaven and re turned not thither, but watereth the earth and maketh it bring forth and bud—so shall my Word be that goeth forth out of my mouth; it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” One of those dropped was an Orthodox Jewish family whom I had always enjoyed visiting; especially on a Jewish holiday when the little seed cakes and raisin wine were served in booths to commemorate the feast of tabernacles. How I enjoyed seeing their happy faces as they talked of the time when they would celebrate this feast in Jerusalem and wave palm branches before Messiah! Or perhaps it would be the prep aration of the Passover and the little mother ,had scoured every corner of their house land cupboards to purge out the leaven. You Imay be sure I made the most of such op portunities to tell them more about the One who is to sit on David’s throne, and about the Passover Lamb, the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world. There was an only daughter, the idol of her father’s heart. As she heard about Jesus, the conviction deepened in her heart that He was Messiah, but in spite of our pleadings she did not have courage to take
