EXHILARATING BACKYARD COMPETITION

3 Novel Games for Outdoor Fun

LADDER TOSS You play this game with 2–4 people split between two teams, each team with its own three-rung ladder set 15 feet apart. Teams take turns tossing their bolas (two balls connected by a nylon rope) underhanded, earning points for bolas that wrap around a rung of the opposing team’s ladder. The higher the rung your bola wraps around, the more points you get. The first team to reach 21 points wins! JENGA GIANT This is the classic game of Jenga made giant ! In Jenga Giant, two players take turns pulling wood blocks from a tower standing about 5 feet tall. Over time, the blocks become crucial to the tower’s integrity, and each pull is a gravity-defying feat. If your pull causes the tower to collapse, you are out, and your opponent has to yell “Jenga!” at the top of their lungs.

While board game nights can be fun, nothing beats playing outside in this lovely weather! Lawn games have evolved past playing horseshoes in an overgrown field. What about Jenga Giant, Ladder Toss, or Flickin’ Chicken? You’ll want to try these three family-friendly games with family and friends. Here’s how to play. FLICKIN’ CHICKEN You can’t have a backyard party without a game of Flickin’ Chicken. No, this is not a menu item at a fast food restaurant — it’s a game of skill and daring played between 2–4 capable challengers. Each player chooses one of four uniquely colored Flickin’ Chickens, which they will use for the remainder of the game. In each of the nine rounds, one player throws the target disc as far as possible. Then, the goal of the game is to toss your chicken onto the target disc in the fewest number of throws possible. After the last round, the player with the lowest score is the victor.

Don’t Let the Daily Grind Wear Down Your Smile

QUICK DENTAL CARE TIPS FOR BUSY LIVES

REMEMBER TO HYDRATE Drinking plenty of water isn’t only good for your body but also important for your teeth. Water helps wash away food residue that bacteria in your mouth would otherwise turn into acids. It also keeps your mouth moist, combating dry mouth, which can increase the risk of tooth decay. We always advise our patients to avoid sugary drinks and opt for water or unsweetened tea to keep their hydration levels up without compromising their teeth. MAKE GOOD SNACK CHOICES Choose snacks that are low in sugar and beneficial for your teeth. Crunchy vegetables like carrots and celery can help clean your teeth naturally, while foods rich in calcium, such as cheese or yogurt, can help reinforce tooth enamel. Avoid sticky or sugary snacks that cling to your teeth and feed decay-causing bacteria. Incorporating these simple tips into your daily routine can help ensure that your dental health remains a priority, no matter how packed your schedule is. Remember, taking care of your teeth now can prevent the need for more time-consuming and expensive treatments in the future.

Let’s face it — it’s a busy world out there! In the hustle and bustle of daily life, professionals often neglect their dental health, which can potentially lead to serious consequences down the line. Maintaining a healthy smile doesn’t just keep you looking good — it’s also important for your overall health. Here are four practical tips for those always on the go. STREAMLINE YOUR MORNING ROUTINE Starting your day on the right foot doesn’t just mean grabbing a quick coffee and glancing at your emails. Incorporating proper dental care into your morning routine helps to set a positive tone for the day. To ensure that your teeth are clean and protected all day, brush for two minutes twice a day, especially after breakfast. Don’t forget to use fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush to protect your enamel and gums from excessive wear. KEEP DENTAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS AT THE OFFICE Stash a toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss in your desk drawer or locker at work. Brushing after lunch keeps your teeth healthy and free from food particles and freshens your breath for any afternoon meetings. If brushing isn’t possible, rinsing your mouth with water or chewing sugar- free gum can help remove food particles and neutralize harmful acids.

Dental Health and Heart Disease

Packed with juicy shrimp, colorful bell peppers, and a blend of spices, this recipe is a must-try!

• 2 lbs shrimp, peeled and deveined • 2 bell peppers, sliced • 1 onion, sliced • 3 tbsp olive oil • 2 tsp chili powder • 2 tsp cumin • 1 tsp smoked paprika • 1 tsp garlic powder INGREDIENTS

• Salt and pepper, to taste • Tortillas Topping Options • Sliced avocado • Salsa • Sour cream • Chopped cilantro

What’s the Link?

What do our mouths and hearts have in common? Surprisingly, a lot! The connection between oral health and heart disease may not be immediately apparent, but growing evidence suggests that oral health can significantly impact cardiovascular well-being. Understanding this link can help us be proactive and maintain a healthy mouth and heart. THE INFLAMMATORY CONNECTION One of the main ways oral health affects our cardiovascular system is through inflammation. Poor oral hygiene can lead to periodontal disease, a severe gum disease caused by bacterial infections. When the gums are inflamed, bacteria can enter the bloodstream, triggering an inflammatory response. Chronic inflammation is a known risk factor for many health issues, including heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes. BACTERIAL PATHWAYS The mouth is home to numerous bacteria, some of which can be harmful. If oral infections, such as those caused by periodontal disease, are left untreated, these bacteria can travel to other parts of the body. Research has shown that certain oral bacteria strains, particularly those involved in gum disease, can be found in the arterial plaques of individuals with heart disease. PREVENTIVE MEASURES Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial in reducing the risk of periodontal disease and heart disease. Regular brushing and flossing help prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar, which can lead to gum disease. Routine dental check-ups allow for early detection and treatment of oral health issues. Adopting a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet, regular exercise, and smoking cessation can promote optimal oral health. Remember: Our bodies are all connected! Good oral hygiene practices and a healthy lifestyle can drastically reduce the risk of gum disease and cardiovascular issues and promote a longer, healthier life.

3 Easy Father’s Day Ideas

Recently, people have been spending big on Father’s Day, and many wait until the very last minute. Last year, Americans spent a record $22.9 billion on Father’s Day, up nearly 10% from the previous year, according to an industry survey. And more than half of consumers don’t start shopping until the week before Father’s Day, while 3.5% wait until the very last day before the holiday, according to another survey. The second survey also revealed that over 75% of shoppers struggle to think of good Father’s Day ideas. Most settle on outings, clothing, gift cards, personal care items, or electronics. Here are three low-budget ideas you can do with your kids that are sure to charm any dad, offered by What’s Up Moms, a top parenting site on YouTube co-founded by vlogger Elle Walker. INTERVIEW CARDS If your kids are preschoolers, have them answer questions about their father and record their answers on notecards. Things like, “How old do you think Daddy is? 100? What is one thing Daddy says? What does Daddy do for work? Why do you love Daddy?” The simplicity and innocence of your children’s answers will warm Dad’s heart more than any store-bought gift ever could. Children Create Unique Dad’s Day Gifts IT’S FATHER’S DAY!

SHOPPING SPREE Give each child $10 to pick out something for Dad, all by themselves, then take them to the nearest big-box store. Walker’s youngsters came up with a mirror, a pair of swim trunks, and crib sheets, and they clearly loved being empowered to make choices. PHOTOS FROM A KID’S PERSPECTIVE You may be surprised at some of the angles children choose and the tender moments they capture, “even if they’re not wow-worthy,” Walker says. Her daughter caught a captivating shot of her husband, Ross, napping with their preschool son resting on his shoulder.
