The Hastings International Piano Competition is a biennial internationally-renowned competition for young concert pianists, taking place in the seaside town of Hastings. Participants are required to play concertos from the very first round, accompanied by another pianist. Those who reach the second round give a solo recital programme of their own devising, including a compulsory new commission. The finals take place over two evenings, with finalists performing full concertos with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The competition winner is awarded a generous cash prize of £15,000 as well as a fellowship award which includes professional guidance, mentoring and advice on making a career in the music business. Prizewinners are also offered professional engagements.
