Since its inception in 1965, the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition has established itself as one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world. All three rounds of the competition are open to the public. Finnish audiences are known for their appreciation of new music which shows on the competition’s obligatory repertoire. In the final round the participants play the Sibelius Violin Concerto as well as one of four pre-selected concertos composed between 1994–2015, together with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra or the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
