Founded in 1995, the International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz honors the legendary Ukrainian pianist born in Kyiv. A cornerstone of the country’s cultural life, the Horowitz Competition fosters international dialogue and friendship through a commitment to artistic excellence and fairness. Over 27 years, it has featured more than 1,300 musicians competing in three age categories. Its activities also include summer academies, master classes, and a music festival. The competition’s prestigious jury and list of past winners, including artists like Vadim Kholodenko, Alexei Gorlatch, Roman Fediurko, Dmytro Choni, Roman Lopatynskyi, Illia Ovcharenko and Rachel Cheung, attest to its high caliber. In 2023, the competition was held in Geneva in partnership with the World Federation of International Music Competitions. Marking its 30th anniversary in 2025, the “Horowitz Competition 30. From Kyiv – to the World” festival was held in Kyiv, a powerful testament to the enduring spirit of music despite the war.
