RINA SALA GALLO INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION Monza, Italy
WFIMC Member since 2009
The competition was founded in 1947 by the Monza-born pianist Rina Sala Gallo together with Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Pianists from all over the world compete for a whole week in a series of solo rounds, culminating in a concert for piano and orchestra performed by the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano. The philanthropic spirit that inspired the founders is renewed every year, supporting young, talented pianists in developing their careers as international concert artists. Among the numerous winners are artists such as Angela Hewitt, Anna Vinniskaya, Michael Lifits, Sofya Gulyak, Alexander Panfilov, Igor Andreev, Young Sun Choi, and Konstantin Emelyanov, the 2024 edition winner.
