The KNSO International Conducting Competition is South Korea’s only international conducting competition, offering a stage for promising young conductors from around the world to demonstrate their capabilities and grow. Established in 2021, the competition is held every three years and is open to conductors aged 23 to 35. The winner is awarded prize money along with debut opportunities at major Korean concert venues and collaborations with symphony orchestras. In a short period, it has established itself as a leading conducting competition in Asia and is gaining attention as a venue for exchange where young conductors from around the world can network and advance their careers. The 1st prize winner of the first competition, Elias Peter Brown (USA), served as the KNSO’s Associate Conductor and was later selected as a fellow to Esa-Pekka Salonen. Hankyeol Yoon, who received 2nd prize from that same competition, won the Herbert von Karajan Young Conductor Award at the 2023 Salzburg Festival.
