WFIMC 2026 YEARBOOK

Please introduce in a few words your competition, its history and legacy.

Are there any novelties or new aspects of your competition that you have introduced or will introduce? Yes, this edition brings several important innovations. We are expanding the number of Prize Concerts offered to the winner, enhancing their visibility and performance opportunities. The winner will also receive an online CD release, allowing their artistry to reach international audiences immediately. As always, we uphold the highest artistic standards, including a Final with Orchestra, and to ensure optimal conditions for all participants, we will accept no more than 50 applications and, in order to help the participants, there is no application fee.

The International Piano Competition “Premio Mauro Monopoli,” in 2026 celebrating its 29th Edition, is one of Italy’s most respected platforms for emerging pianists. All stages of the competition are held in one of the most beautiful theatres in Italy—the historic Curci Theatre—offering participants an inspiring and acoustically superb setting. Over the decades, the Competition has welcomed young talents from around the world, many of whom have gone on to develop major international careers, and prestigious Juries. Its legacy is rooted in artistic excellence, fairness, and a deep connection with Barletta’s rich musical tradition. We are especially proud that Maestro Carlo Maria Giulini served as our Honorary Chairperson, a role that further strengthened the competition’s artistic identity and prestige.

What are your expectations for the membership in the WFIMC?

Becoming a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions is a great honor for us. It represents a significant milestone, confirming the quality, integrity, and global relevance of our event. WFIMC membership will increase our international visibility, attract outstanding young pianists, and strengthen our mission to provide fair, meaningful opportunities for emerging artists to enter the global stage. *Prof. Francesco Monopoli – Artistic Director of the International Piano Competition ‘Premio Mauro Paolo Monopoli’
