INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION ‘PREMIO MAURO PAOLO MONOPOLI’ Barletta, Italy

The International Piano Competition ‘Premio Mauro Paolo Monopoli’ was founded in 1997 to commemorate the pianist Mauro Paolo Monopoli and to promote young pianists worldwide. It takes place every year in May in the beautiful Curci Theatre in Barletta, Italy, and is organized by Cultura e Musica G. Curci – ETS. For the 29th Edition in 2026 the competition provides a total of EUR 16.500 in prize money, a recording by Moto Armonico, and 5 Concerts offered by NUOVO IMAIE. The Competition is open to pianists born after 1st January 1994 and before 1st January 2010. There is no application fee, but a refundable deposit of EUR 50 is required of all applicants. The final round will be held as a public concert together with the Suoni del Sud Synphony Orchestra. In the past, the Jury has included renowned figures such as Lya De Barberiis, Sergio Perticaroli, Piero Rattalino, Andrej Jasinsky, Oxana Yablonskaja, Susan Lin, Yuko Yamaoka, Piernarciso Masi, Daniel Rivera, and Hector Pell, among others. Past winners of the competition have gone on to successful international careers and include Oliver Kern, Anna Vinnitskaja, Yusuke Kichuchi, Vadim Ageev, Stanislav Khristenko, Ye Seul Kim, Galina Chistyakova, Alexander Panfilov , Evgeny Starodubtsev, Dominic Doutney, Bartek Sklodowsky, Zhiqiao Zhang and many others. Fostering piano culture all around the world, the Monopoli Competition aims to empower young pianists and support them on the way to their professional career. In the words of Carlo Maria Giulini, past honorary Chairman of the competition: “May the young generations serve Music and, through sound, present what the great composers created to enrich the human spirit.”
