BARTÓK WORLD COMPETITION BUDAPEST Budapest, Hungary
WFIMC Member since 2022
The pluridisciplinary competition founded by the Liszt Academy Budapest in 2017 covers the most important fields of Béla Bartók’s oeuvre, which is piano, violin and string quartets. The competition is held in six-year cycles: first, in 2017, it was for violinists, piano followed two years later, and the year 2021 was devoted to string quartets. Composers compete in the intervening even years by submitting works intended for the next year’s instrumental round. In 2023 the cycle started again with violin, and in 2026 it will be composers’ turn. The Bartók World Competition Budapest – Composition 2026 is open to composers of all nationalities, aged maximum 40 years with 5–6 minutes pieces for string quartet to be submitted. The competition is entirely online, the prize-winning compositions will be presented at a Gala Concert on 29 November 2026.
