DAEGU INTERNATIONAL VOCAL MUSIC COMPETITION Daegu, South Korea
WFIMC Member since 2024
The Daegu International Vocal Music Competition, jointly hosted by Daegu Metropolitan City and the Dongil Cultural Foundation, is an annual competition solely focused on vocal music. Established in 1983, it has played a key role in making Daegu a cultural hub and has contributed to the city’s 2017 designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Music. The competition discovers talented vocalists worldwide, offering them opportunities to perform at the Daegu International Music Festival and to debut at the Daegu Opera House. In addition, while all participants who advance to the finals will be awarded a prize, the winner of the First Prize will be awarded KRW 20.000.000. In 2026, the competition will be held in a new structure: after a preliminary video round, competitors accepted to the semi-finals may choose to perform either in New York City, Milan, or Daegu. Following this, selected candidates will be invited, all travel and accommodation provided, to perform at the final in Daegu.
