FIFA Museum At the very heart of Zurich, immediately beside Enge station, stands the FIFA Museum — where football ceases to be a mere game and becomes a journey through time, emotions and global culture T his museum of the histo- ry of association football opened in 2016, housed in the renovated Haus zur Enge building, and has since become a real mecca for all fans of “the most important unimportant thing in the world”, but also for those who are curious about the stories of this sport’s legends. With an exhibition space of approxi- mately 3,500 square metres, sprawling over several floors, it houses a rich and diverse collection encompassing more than 1,000 exhibits, hundreds of video recordings, historical documents, photo- graphs and souvenirs — all with the aim of presenting the evolution of the sport: from the early days, through the history of tournaments, to today’s multicultur- al dimension. But Zurich’s FIFA Museum is more than just a museum of old memories — it’s an interactive, multimedia experience. Visi- tors enter a world in which they can feel the very pulse of association football: they can stand in front of original World

Those shirts, along with the jerseys of many national teams from all 211 FIFA member countries, repre- sent not only the history of association football, but also the game’s world map — from its prevalence in every corner of the world to the universality of the pas- sion for the ball. The museum’s centrepiece exhibit is the original FIFA World Cup trophy, repre- senting a highly revered artefact that stands as a symbol of dreams, victories and the gravitas of football history. The trophy is exhibited in a special “Trophy Room” display that represents the heart of the museum. The museum’s collections also encom- pass items that illustrate the sport’s de- velopment over the decades, including balls, equipment, souvenirs, shirts, ma- terials from world cups, documents etc. This is an archive of a global phenome- non in which each object has a story of its own. And, of course, for those who aren’t hardcore football fans or don’t active- ly live with this sport on a daily basis, there’s also interactive content. A huge soccer pinball machine, multimedia rooms, video projections, digital exhibi- tions, multicultural exhibits that demon- strate the ways football influences soci- eties around the world — all of which
