old tram that’s been conver- ted into a mobile dining room, during winter it departs daily from Bellevue station and cru- ises the city’s historic streets, the Limmatquai promenade and the lakeside area. Fondue and wine are served during the two-hour journey, as the tram meanders past guild houses, bridges and city lights that are visible through the windows. This experience isn’t exclusi- vely for tourists and is also a favourite among locals, who just love traditional rituals in an unexpected setting. The Fondue Tram cruises Zurich’s streets from November to Fe- bruary, and this year it has re- ceived a brand new, modern vehicle. Still, there’s no need to worry about this change, as the delicious fondue, plea- sant atmosphere and beauti- ful views of the city remain the same as before. Float at the theatre Another Zurich surprise is the Herzbaracke, a floating thea- tre that’s moored on the shore at Bellevue. This wooden stru- cture in a retro style resembles

a cabaret salon from the Belle Époque, albeit one that’s on wa- ter. The interior includes old lamps, small tables, gramop- hones and a stage that shifts between chansons, cabaret, poetry and blues. Shows start in the evening hours, while it is also possible to reserve dinner that’s served prior to the start of the programme. The intima-

cy of this venue, coupled with the gentle rippling of the water and the illuminated skyline of Zurich in the background, crea- tes an atmosphere that can’t be rivalled by any classical hall.
