Hayatona – Our Life

with the new direction of the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund. By embracing a holistic approach to conservation and sustainabil- ity, the Fund recognises that protecting all living things directly benefits humanity. This vision is in line with the frameworks adopted in Abu Dhabi, ensuring that the 20-year strategic vision and the nature 2030 Programme translate into tangible results for both nature and people. The re-election of the MBZ Fund’s Executive Managing Director reaffirms this belief and strengthens our close bond with the IUCN, which it re- lies on through tools such as the IUCN Red List and the Species Survival Commission [SSC] network of experts. Driven by a shared passion and commitment, HE Al Mubarak has trans- formed the MBZ Fund into one of the world’s most significant philan- thropic endowments dedicated to direct species conservation. Since its inception in 2009, the Fund has supported more than 3,100 projects worldwide, contributing to the rediscovery, reintroduction, and protec- tion of over 1,900 species. Under her leadership, the Fund has evolved from a small grants programme into a platform advancing broader conservation initiatives that link biodiversity, sustainability, and hu- man well-being. People’s well-being is intrinsically connected to conservation, as healthy ecosystems provide essential resources like clean water, food, and air. By prioritising human well-being within conservation strategies, the Fund

The Congress also celebrated the diversity and inclusivity that define IUCN today. Youth del- egates, Indigenous custodians, and local con- servationists took the stage alongside ministers and CEOs, demonstrating that knowledge, in- novation, and leadership come from every cor- ner of society. The resulting sense of solidarity - what HE Al Mubarak calls “the power of col- lective stewardship” - was one of the Congress’s enduring legacies. Those principles of collaboration and direct action are also visible in HE Al Mubarak’s par- allel role as Executive Managing Director of the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, which has supported more than 3,100 projects across nearly every country. Many of the Fund’s grantees are themselves part of IUCN’s network - scientists and field practi- tioners who translate global frameworks into tangible results on the ground. As the world looks beyond the Abu Dhabi Con- gress toward 2030, HE Al Mubarak’s leadership across both IUCN and the MBZ Fund exempli- fies how vision, science, and philanthropy can work hand in hand. It is a reminder that the path to protecting nature is neither top-down nor local alone, but a shared journey - one that begins, fittingly, in the collaboration that de- fines the IUCN family. That same spirit of collaboration is reflected in the work of the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund - a living model of how the goals forged at the IUCN Congress take shape in the field. The Fund’s conservationists repre- sent a vibrant subset of IUCN Members world- wide, advancing species recovery and commu- nity resilience from the ground up. Upon reflection, the four-year strategy of HE Al Mubarak as IUCN President aligns perfectly
