committed to creating a space where artists could experi‑ ment, take risks, and shape their practices. That spirit of adaptability and responsiveness became central to who we are. Over the years, our focus has deepened into prior‑ itising process over outcome and learning over polished presentations. While our programmes have expanded in scale and scope, the core mission remains the same: to be active listeners who serve and support the artistic community. Today, that early commitment continues to guide us; only now with greater intentionality, stronger foundations, and a broader reach. Were there key turning points or programs that you feel shaped 421’s identity as an institution? One of the most significant turning points came around the five‑year mark, when our research, focus groups, and years of experience allowed us to refine our strate‑ gy. This strategic approach helped us move from initial experimentation and solely partnership‑based program‑ ming toward a more structured, multi‑layered model of commissioning and capability‑building. Programmes like the Artistic Research Grant, the Artistic and Curato‑ rial Development Programmes, and our Residency Pro‑ gramme emerged from this framework and continue to shape our exhibitions and community initiatives.

Q & A with Faisal Al Hassan, Director, 421 Looking back to 421’s beginnings in Mina Zayed, what stands out to you most about its early vision, and how has that vision evolved over the past decade? When we began more than a decade ago, we had a clear vision and plan in place, but what stands out most is how quickly that vision evolved as we listened to the needs of the creative community. هو بوصلة عملنا، لكن بوعي أكبر، وأســـــس أقوى، وحضور أوسع أثرًا. هـــــل كانـــــت هنـــــاك محطّـــــات مفصليّة أو برامج شـــــعرت أنّها أســـــهمت في تشكيل كمؤسّسة؟ 421 هويّة مَجمَع إحـــــدى أهـــــم المحطّـــــات المفصليّة جاءت قرابة العـــــام الخامس، حين أتاح لنا البحث والمجموعات النقاشـــــيّة وســـــنوات الخبرة أن نصقـــــل اســـــتراتيجيّتنا بوضـــــوح أكبر. وقـــــد ســـــاعدنا هـــــذا النّهج الاســـــتراتيجي على الانتقال مـــــن مرحلة التّجريب الأولى وبرامج قائمة على الشّـــــراكات وحدها، إلى نموذج أكثر تنظيمًا وتعـــــدّدًا في هيكليّته، يقوم على التّكليـــــف الفنّي وبناء القدرات. ومـــــن هذا الإطـــــار وُلدت برامـــــج محوريّة مثـــــل منحـــــة البحـــــث الفنّـــــي، وبرنامجي التّطوير الفنّـــــي وتطوير خبـــــرات التّقييم الفنّي، وبرنامج الإقامة الفنّية، وهي برامج ما تـــــزال تشـــــكّل البنية التي تســـــتند إليها معارضنا ومبادراتنا المجتمعيّة اليوم. توجيه رســـــالته 421 كيف أعـــــاد مَجمَـــــع وأولويّاته اســـــتجابة للتحوّلات الواسعة في المشـــــهد الثقافي الإماراتـــــي والدّور المتنامي للمنصّات المستقلّة؟ علـــــى مـــــدى العقـــــد الماضـــــي، ازداد عـــــدد الفنّانيـــــن والعامليـــــن فـــــي حقـــــل الفنـــــون في دولـــــة الإمارات بمـــــا يفـــــوق توقّعاتنا، وهـــــو مؤشّـــــر واضح على حيويّة المشـــــهد وازدهـــــاره. وفي الوقت نفســـــه، يعني هذا النمـــــو أن المؤسّســـــات الثقافيّـــــة مطالَبـــــة بـــــأن تواكب احتياجـــــات مجتمـــــع إبداعي ، 421 بـــــات أكثر تنوّعًا وحركة. فـــــي مَجمَع

شـــــخصيّة المؤسّسة، والدّروس التي برزت خلاله، وكيف تطـــــوّر التّفاعل بين الجمهور والكوادر الفنّية. ويتّضح في الأفق ســـــؤال يتّجه نحو المســـــتقبل، يتمثّـــــل في كيفيّة دعـــــم الجيـــــل الجديـــــد من 421 مواصلـــــة الأصـــــوات الإبداعيّة في الإمـــــارات، وعلى مستوى المنطقة والعالم. حـــــوار مع فيصل الحســـــن، المديـــــر العام 421 لمَجمَع في 421 عنـــــد العودة إلى بدايـــــات مَجمَع ميناء زايـــــد، ما أبرز ما يلفت انتباهك في رؤيته الأولى؟ وكيف تطوّرت تلك الرّؤية خلال العقد الماضي؟ حين انطلقنا قبـــــل أكثر من عقد من الزمن، كانت لدينا رؤيـــــة واضحة وخطّة محدّدة، لكـــــن ما يبرز أكثر هو السّـــــرعة التي أخذت
بهـــــا تلك الرّؤية فـــــي التطوّر كلّمـــــا أصغينا إلى احتياجـــــات المجتمـــــع الإبداعيّ. بدأنا كفريق صغير مخلص لعمله، في مســـــتودع مُعاد توظيفه في ميناء زايد، يحمل إيمانًا راسخًا بضرورة توفير مساحة يجرّب فيها الفنّانـــــون، ويغامـــــرون بجـــــرأةٍ، ويبلورون ممارســـــاتهم. ومنـــــذ تلك اللّحظـــــة، أصبح مبدأ المرونة والاســـــتجابة ركنًا أساسيًّا في هويّتنا. ومع مرور السّنوات، تعمّق تركيزنا ليمنـــــح الأولويّـــــة للممارســـــة العمليّة على النّتيجة، وللمعرفة على العروض المثاليّة. وعلى الرّغم من اتّساع برامجنا ونموّها في الحجم والنّطاق، ظلّت رســـــالتنا الجوهريّة ثابتـــــةً: أن نُصغـــــي لاحتياجـــــات المجتمع الفنّي ونعمل على خدمته ودعمه. واليوم، مـــــا يزال ذلك الالتزام الـــــذي انتهجناه باكرًا
