It is moonrise in the Scottish Highlands. The Old Man of Storr – a 2800-million-year-old rock formation – is covered in ice as a blizzard rages and storms around its prominence. The photographer, Liam Man, used drones to light the craggy spines on the midwinter night and as such, they eerily gleam against the evening sky, whose red hues burn like embers. It is a truly dramatic composition and shows both the power and fragility of nature as well as exemplifying the reach of technology. It was the winning photograph in the landscape category of last year’s Open Competition at the Sony World Photography Awards. في مشهد مُطل على قمّة الهضاب الاسكتلنديّة، يغمره نور القمر الفضيّ، يقف مليون عام، ويُعرف 2.8 تشكيل صخري يغلّفه الجليد، يعود تاريخه إلى نحو . وفي تلك اللّيلة The Old Man of Storr ” باسم “ذا أولد مان أوف ستور التي عصفت بها عاصفة ثلجيّة، استخدم المصوّر ليام مان طائرات من دون طيّار لإضاءة نتوءاته الحادّة وسط ليل منتصف الشّتاء، فبدت كأنّها تومض بوهج غريب أمام سماء محمرّة تشتعل كحبيبات الجمر. تكشف هذه اللّقطة تركيبة دراميّة بامتياز، وتُجسّد، في آن واحد، قوّة الطبيعة وهشاشتها، وما تُتيحه التّكنولوجيا من آفاق واسعة. وقد حصدت هذه الصّورة جائزة فئة المناظر الطبيعيّة في المسابقة المفتوحة لجوائز سوني العالميّة للتّصوير الفوتوغرافي في العام الماضي.
