Interested in Coaching Youth Recreational Sports? Volunteer coaches are needed in all Youth Recreational Sports and age divisions, and will be selected immediately following the registration deadline. All coaches are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background check completed. As an added benefit, head coaches are eligible for a 50% DISCOUNT on their child’s registration. RECREATIONAL FLAG FOOTBALL & CHEERLEADING Open to ages 4 to 15 (child cannot be 16 on 9/30/2025) Season Dates: August to October Fee: $75/Residents; $110/Non-Residents Registration Deadline for Residents: Tuesday, June 24 Games are played weeknights and on weekends. Games will begin in early August. Participants will be placed on teams based on their level of ability, which is determined at player ratings. Participants will receive a team jersey and cheerleaders will receive a shirt and skirt with paid registration. Football players must provide for themselves a mouthpiece that is mandatory for all practices and games. Plastic molded cleats are recommended. Tennis shoes may be worn. The program prepares children and their guardians for organized basketball in a fun, non-competitive environment. Parent(s) work one-on-one with their child practicing a variety of skills. Parent- child groups will receive a Start Smart basketball. This will be used during the program and can be used to continue the development of the child. *Resident/ Non-resident rate. The City’s Youth Athletics Incentive Program makes available one $50 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card per eligible child each time they participate in a City of Sunrise Youth Recreational Athletics Program. The Program is made possible by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, and was developed in an effort to assist Sunrise residents who have experienced a hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
