The Queen's Awards Magazine 2022

Tickhill Engineering Ltd –T/A Haith Group

Haith is the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of vegetable handling equipment. Since 1964 the Doncaster-based company has helped farmers and food producers receive, wash, grade and sort vegetables as efficiently as possible. Haith received its 2022 Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation for its Rota-Tip Up-Eject, which is used to transfer fresh vegetables onto washing, sizing and packing lines. The Up-Eject features a unique system that is safer, more efficient and more robust than conventional designs. This year’s award is the second Queen’s Award to be bestowed on the family-owned business, which was recognised for innovation in 2010. Since introducing the Up-Eject system, Haith has sold over 180 Up-Eject machines to leading food suppliers in the UK, Europe, Japan, Israel, Canada and the United States. In the UK, over 90% of the UK’s supermarket potato suppliers use the Haith Rota-tip, meaning Haith’s award-winning machine will have handled the vast majority of potatoes sold in Britain.

later, Haith designed and patented the first-ever Flume Destoner, which allowed users to remove stones from a crop. In 1997 Haith developed and patented the SupaFill 600, the first-ever dipping head box filler. Haith’s SupaFlow grader was designed and patented in 1998, with the first-ever patented Rota-Tip box tippler launching two years later. Haith’s root veg polisher was patented in 2004, with the company’s direct-drive Root Veg polisher and VertiFill Pro-Series box fillers being introduced in 2011 and 2017 respectively. In the past year, Haith has utilised all of its experience of working with food producers on the supply of single machines and complete turnkey installations to develop the Pro-Line, a modular approach to delivering complete vegetable handling production lines. Scalable, energy-efficient and designed to work in tandem with Haith’s water treatment solutions, which reduce waste and increase water reuse, the Pro-Line is seen as the future of modern food manufacturing sites by Haith’s designers. VEXO International (UK) Ltd

VEXO International (UK) Ltd is working to reduce energy consumption and mitigate global warming with its innovative energy saving solutions. Based in Bedfordshire, VEXO has been researching and innovating products that reduce the effects of poor water quality on heating and cooling since 2010 and is now the UK’s leader in side-stream filtration. VEXO’s award winning and patented X-POT® closed system water filtration unit is reaching a global market, with installations on thousands of buildings across the World including North America, Europe, Australia, and most recently on data centre projects in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Dubai. With an increased focus on energy reduction as we transition to renewables, and the urgency to achieve Net-Zero targets, VEXO products are assisting central and local governments, as well as commercial building owners and contractors with their environmental and sustainability targets. Research conducted at Loughborough University showed that the X-POT® provided a 3.5% energy saving in just seven days, with the results from further testing and research expected later this year. VEXO’s unique range of additives have also been proven to provide up to 10% energy saving and a recently developed range of smart commercial heating and controls systems (S-BMS®) are applying

the latest technologies to optimise the monitoring and control of heating performance and energy output. This is all adding up to a combined suite of products that are helping in the fight to reach Net-Zero and mitigate global warming. The X-POT® conditions the water within

The X-POT® combines magnetic and fine filtration with BMS connectivity

commercial systems and ensures heating

and cooling is working at peak performance and efficiency. The novel design of the X-POT® means it can replace multiple existing products on the market by combining magnetic filtration, air and dirt separation, fine filtration, and additive dosing, saving time and money on installations and ongoing maintenance. Poor water quality is a major contributor to poor system performance and wasted energy. Damage from corrosion and poorly maintained systems leads to increased maintenance, downtime, energy use, and CO2 emissions. Building tenants and owners are frustrated with poor heating and cooling and rising energy costs. The VEXO X-POT® is the solution to these problems.
