The Queen's Awards Magazine 2022

PAST WINNER INTERVIEW

City Building LLP

What planning did you do beforehand?

What made City Building LLP apply for a Queen’s Award?

Our organisation is very much focussed on performance, as well as the need to constantly improve and evidence our ambitions and results, which are very helpful when beginning the process.

In 2012 we won our first Queen’s Award and applied again in 2018, both for Sustainable Development. In 2021, we achieved a third win for Promoting Opportunity. At each point we recognised transformational changes within areas of our business and felt we were able to demonstrate this to the judges. Our social ethos of building a sustainable future and using our commercial success to implement socially inclusive practices has been recognised on each occasion. What research did you do about the awards/ application process? As three-time winners we are very familiar with the process of applying and the in-depth information required, along with the external validation needed to make the application.

How did you find the application process?

The application process is thorough, and time well spent. It is a good process to experience in that it informs what you have done and what you might need to do in the future.

The process affirmed my pride in City Building. I joined the company as an apprentice Blacksmith and am now Executive Director having been given opportunities to develop and progress.
