INTERNATIONAL TRADE

Kestrel Liner Agencies Ltd

Kestrel is honoured to be the recipient of its third Queen’s Award for International Trade – an achievement that is testament to the incredible and diverse group of global employees, whose skill sets and experience enable Kestrel to stand out in the competitive field of Logistics. Kestrel provides a hands-on service to the vast world of international shipping and logistics. The company’s philosophy is ‘Global reach with local focus’. No matter how far-flung the cargo origin or destination is, the customer experiences personal service with a family touch. CEO Andy Thorne is hands-on in the business, as is his wife Nicki, and children Rebecca and Chris. All employees pride themselves on going the extra mile recognising that success lies in the success of their customers. From small beginnings Founded by owner and CEO Andy Thorne in 1994, Kestrel grew from a two-man operation to an international group moving every type of cargo, no matter how big or small, using every method of freight management and movement globally. Its head office is in Stansted, Essex, with offices throughout the UK and management offices in the US, Latin America, Caribbean, Asia, Africa and Europe. Each Head of Region has their own niche area of industry knowledge, supporting Kestrel’s ability to manage all freight types. These include the energy industry (oil and gas and renewable energy, such as on shore and off shore wind and solar), moving huge structures and managing everything from road transport to port management of vessels, and the construction industry, where the company moves giant pieces of earth moving machinery. Other freight types include mining equipment, like the enormous

Terex dumper trucks; largescale machinery for industries like agriculture, as well as government projects, such as airports or roads. The company can handle these breakbulk or out of gauge cargos by road, sea or air. Its project managers understand the intricacies of these complicated moves. The UK market leader As a liner agent, Kestrel also represents shipping lines and provides commercial services and full vessel husbandry to its lines. The UK market leader, Kestrel represents more shipping lines than all its competitors added together. Cargo types include shipping container services, both consolidated part loads and full loads of ambient and also temperature controlled cargo, breakbulk or out of gauge, and also RoRo or roll on roll off cargo, which is essentially anything on wheels from cars to tractors. Recognising customers’ need for flexibility, Kestrel continued to expand an air freight division for both standard size freight and out of gauge cargo. A RoRo division and bespoke free zone auto terminal in Jamaica handles cars from Asia and distributes them throughout the Caribbean, and a marine and port husbandry division handles the varied requirements for ships to call into port. There is also a global procurement division. The company even provides a high end concierge service with personal buying and hand delivery of urgent or valuable items. Its customs clearance offices worldwide are ensuring end to end solutions for customers, and lastly, for the fine art collectors among its customers, a new fine art storage warehouse and shipment division was created.

There’s always a way… If it is difficult to ship or difficult to get to, Kestrel always finds a way, whether it’s a tiny island in the Caribbean or a remote location in Latin America or West Africa. There is no doubt that the endorsement of a British business to the very highest standard possible – that of a Queen’s Award – has played a huge part in the success of Kestrel. Commenting on the role of the Queen’s Awards, Andy Thorne said: “Not only am I proud beyond of words of what this company and its employees have achieved in receiving three Queen’s Awards for International Trade, but I see it as a platform for greater things to come for Kestrel. The awards also underpin the future of British exports for many other companies, both start ups and companies already trading.” KESTREL LINER AGENCIES LTD New Kestrel House, Parsonage Lane, Stansted, Essex CM24 8GF Tel: +44 (0)1279 818888 • sales@kestrel.com @KestrelLiner Kestrel Liner Agencies @kestrel_liner Kestrel Liner Agencies Ltd
