The Queen's Awards Magazine 2022

Waterman Corporate Enterprises Ltd

Gail and Matt Waterman’s company is growing faster than hair Itself. This revolutionary hair growth product business has gone from strength to strength over the past 10 years – from working from home selling a few units per day, later progressing to selling tens of thousands each month and winning a Queen’s Award for International Trade in the process. Watermans was developed after the couple suffered different variations of hair loss and, after trying various remedies that failed to work, created their own formula. They developed the business while they also both worked full-time jobs, doing the product business at night, on days off and at weekends. A mix of old and new Gail, a hairdresser and salon owner who’s had a background in hairdressing for 32 years, and Matt, who’s a marketing expert, were the perfect team to take the invention forward and help provide a solution for people who suffered with the same problem – at an affordable price. After extensive research they found a number

of ancient remedies, then mixed them with new age ingredients. These were then used, only to find that six weeks later lanugo (baby hair) had started to fill in the gaps. It was then brought into the salon environment to be tested on Gail’s customers on a range of all different hair types, textures and races to substantiate the efficacy of their products. Customers soon returned, commenting how much better their hair felt and how more manageable it was. “Starting from humble beginnings, we just can’t believe how big the business has grown over time,” explains Gail. “We became the most searched-for haircare brand in the world and have now bought our own 20,000 sq ft warehouse outright, employing 11 staff in total along the way. “At the beginning retailers ignored us, but we still banished bad hair days. Watermans now has distributors across Europe, Asia Pacific, UAE, and India, Saudi and Australia, and also sells on Amazon and in Boots, hopefully attracting more distributors along the way. We want everyone who is suffering from various hair problems to feel the benefits of using our products.

Although this is a lifestyle change and we don’t promise it will work overnight, if used regularly it can help to combat hair problems.” Spreading good Karma Watermans believe in spreading good Karma, so since starting the company they have donated tens of thousands of free bottles of hair growth products to chemotherapy wards and chemo patients to help them regain their hair faster. “Winning The Queen’s Award means the world to us because we have worked such long hours to get here, driven by a determination to succeed and belief in our products,” says Gail. “Hopefully this award will give us the recognition needed and will provide us with more opportunity for growth throughout the world, opening new doors along the way and taking us to the next level of growth.”
