The Queen's Awards Magazine 2022

PAST WINNER INTERVIEW

TensCare What made TensCare apply for a Queen’s Award? We thought it would be a fabulous accolade to publicly and prestigiously recognise the work and endeavour of our TensCare team, as well as the wider TensCare family of suppliers and distributors who collaborate with us to provide our product users safe, reliable products. What research did you do about the awards/ application process? At a medical trade exhibition we had spoken to Rob Lawton at Lawton’s Tubes (a past winner) and he believed we would meet the criteria. So, we actually didn’t do a lot of research and just told our story. But it does make sense to talk to other past winners to gain an understanding of what is involved and have different members of your team contribute to the answers in order to gain a full picture.

What planning did you do beforehand?

We downloaded the application questions and split them across the team with specific members responsible for providing certain answers. We then had an editing review so that we were within the word count criteria.

How did you find the application process?

The process was straightforward. However, we do like to chat so we would’ve loved to have said more on some of the answers! Understandably, the word count limit did frustrate us a little. Did you learn anything about your own company during the process? Yes; we tend to be very forward-looking as a business, concerning ourselves with what comes next. The application requires a reflective approach that is very rewarding in itself as you recognise the achievements of both individual and team efforts across a sustained period of time. I think it was a rewarding reflection in its own right.
