Western Region
Along the banks of the Ohio River, just north of Henderson, KY, John James Audubon operated a small mercantile business and explored the wilderness in search of wild birds to study and sketch. Years later, a replica of a Norman-French inn and formal French gardens were designed to honor his French heritage and to house the largest collection of John James Audubon artwork and artifacts in the world. The inn, or museum, is comprised of four areas: the Bird Observatory; the Discovery Center with hands-on exhibits; the Learning Center, where the park naturalist and art educator conduct environmental and art programs; and the Friends of Audubon Meeting Room and Gallery for special events or meetings for up to 150 people. A multi- purpose theater is equipped to do multi-media presentations (2 ADA seating spaces). John James Audubon State Park 270-826-2247
