Western Region
Along the banks of the Ohio River, just north of Henderson, KY, John James Audubon operated a small mercantile business and explored the wilderness in search of wild birds to study and sketch. Years later, a replica of a Norman-French inn and formal French gardens were designed to honor his French heritage and to house the largest collection of John James Audubon artwork and artifacts in the world. e inn, or museum, is comprised of four areas: the Bird Observatory; the Discovery Center with hands-on exhibits; the Learning Center, where the park naturalist and art educator conduct environmental and art programs; and the Friends of Audubon Meeting Room and Gallery for special events or meetings for up to 150 people. A multi- purpose theater is equipped to do multi-media presentations (2 ADA seating spaces). John James Audubon State Park 270-826-2247
