IUJ helped me a lot in my career!

Lin Yuzhu Ernst & Young Strategy and Consulting IDP, Class of 2015

After finishing my bachelor’s degree in China, I came to IUJ in 2013 to pursue my master’s degree in international development. It was such a fulfilling experience! I was able to build up friendships with students across the world and gained skills/knowledge from prominent professors. Although I was lucky enough to receive both Niigata International Association (NIA) Scholarship and JASSO scholarship. To cover my living expenses, I also worked as a part-time library assistant and teaching assistant for several classes.

Like most of the fresh graduates, I struggled between pursuing master’s degree and seeking a job opportunity in China. As you might know, the competition in China’s job market is fierce and I was also not ready. Luckily, I made my life- changing decision to come to IUJ. During my two years at IUJ, I spent most of my energies on my Major (International Development Program) and Japanese study. Being a first-time learner of Japanese, I was able to have simple conversations with locals and passed job interviews in Japanese after spending two years at IUJ.

Outside my academic life, I was also active in the school’s multicultural events and the local tours hosted by Japanese friends.

Next, I would like to share my thoughts about what students care the most - the career after IUJ. IUJ provides robust support for students who are seeking opportunities in Japan, including CV editing, 1 on 1 career consulting and various on-site recruiting events, etc. I got my first job at a listed Japanese manufacturing company through IUJ recruiting events and many of my classmates also got their ideal jobs with the support of IUJ. The job market in Japan is very active recently and the companies value our international background and vision. It might be tough to fit 100% into the Japanese working cultural and there might be some language barriers. But if you are looking to expand your network globally and look for exciting opportunities in Japan, IUJ is the best place that can provide you with all support.

Last but not least, I would like to say “IUJ might be far from Tokyo, but it is definitely closer to the World”.
