SOCIALISING WITHOUT ALCOHOL IS NOT BORING. By Peggi Cooney | Author This Side of Alcohol | Hola Sober Host + Columnist | TSOA on FB + Instagram |

Think social events without alcohol are boring, no fun?

Think again.

On May 21st, the second Sober in the City event was held at Antiquities Maison Privee in Midtown Sacramento, California. The first was held in Long Beach in January. I had the honor of being the guest speaker and weeks later, I am still basking in the experience – a beautiful venue with a four-course dinner, fancy zero-proof cocktails, handcrafted coffees and a whole lot of connection. The vibe was chill, upbeat, and inclusive. It was an experience fully remembered by all attendees who missed out on nothing but enjoyed laughter and community. It was a night lived unaltered yet enhanced!

Same party, no buzz.

The event was attended by a combination of “locals” and others from all over the country - Florida, Maryland, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Michigan, Washington, Arizona, Minnesota, Oregon, Nevada, and of course, California. I was completely humbled. A huge thanks to Susie Streelman and her team for organizing this event. It was truly memorable and amazing. Josh James (@joshthenonalcoholic), our featured bar manager (assisted by Taylor Mount @zeroproofsoberbar) created zero-proof cocktails that rivaled, if not surpassed their hangover- producing cousins. Josh is changing drinking culture across the country. He welcomed the attendees with these words, “You are going to look back on this dinner and realize that this was just the beginning! Restaurants are going to offer alcohol-free options just as they offer vegetarian and gluten-free!
