QUESTIONS PEOPLE DARE TO ASK MERY ROSELL

A CHR ISTIAN RETIRAI. CENTER IN AR IZONA

Q. “Can a girl, who has been ex- tremely loose with boys before be coming a Christian, go out with Christian fellows? Would they un derstand and forgive you if you should happen to fall in love with one of them?” A. First of all, it’s unfortunate that you have already given away some very choice things of your life, per haps even chastity. But God is ready to forgive you. I John 1 :9, “ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from ALL unrighteous ness.” The Bible tells us that our sins are cast into the depths of the deep est sea. If God has placed them there, we too should forget them. Of course, we will mark carefully the path of stumbling so that we would never again travel that way. Q. “ Can you help me with the prob lem of mental illness? Can a Chris tian have this happen to him? I thought the Bible said, ‘God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of pow er, of love, and of a sound mind.’ ” A. Without question, the precepts of Christianity will provide love, power, and a sound mind. The faith one must have in our Lord Jesus Christ is a well-ordered documentation of God’s answers to the human mind. The person who is well instructed in the ways of Jesus Christ will be pro tected against the general trend of the pressures, fears, phobias, and frustrations that come in this day in which we’re living. Fifty-five per cent of all the hospital beds in this country are occupied by people who have no organic ailment whatsoever. They’re either psychotics, neurotics or hypertension cases. Number one, there is the outward look. I know you need normal love and affection and normal inquiry, understanding and security of all kinds. But never mind what people say for, “ the fear of man bringeth a snare, but the fear of the Lord bringeth wisdom.” John 14:27: “ My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it

be afraid.” So there’s an outward look of confidence. Then there’s an inward look. Phi- lippians 4:6 and 7: “ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving let your requests be known unto God, and the peace of God which passeth all understanding shall guard [or build a fort around your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” God will take care of your mind if you’ll let Him. Then there’s the upward look. When you turn to Christ, you can have a freedom from guilt, blame, fear, hatred, frustration, and anxie ty. It is true some Christians are having psychiatric, neurotic, hyper tension problems mainly because they do not follow God’s perfect plan. Certain women, during periods of their lives, will naturally have ter rible stress within. They need love, comfort, care and understanding. Actually it’s not your job to fix the world. It’s your job to be right with God. There need not be insanity. Q. “ Whenever I have a big problem or a worry, I tend to run away from it by going to sleep. This makes things even worse. The work doesn’t get done at all. I have prayed about the problem but / still sleep way too much.” A. Physically speaking, it might be healthful for you to sleep as well as you do. How many thousands of peo ple have told me they would give any thing for a decent night’s sleep! Yes, it’s true, if you are sleeping con stantly, you are not really meeting your problems head on. Here are six sim p le yet practical sugges tions: 1. Battle your inertia. 2. Can cel the negatives. 3. Validate God’s proposition. 4. Give Christ a license to all of you. 5. Give yourself away to God forever. 6. Abandon your sin into the hands of Christ. Maybe you are a person who even falls asleep while praying. Then walk around and pray. Here’s another thought. Write your problems down, and take them one at a time. Don’t discard that paper until you have done something about each one of those problems.
