T h e y h a d s u d d e n l y become cool to each other. Something had come between them. Only a few days before they had seemed to have such a happy relation that it didn’t seem possible that anything could be wrong. Now they were estranged from one another. It all commenced with a careless slight. Feelings were hurt and then came the coolness. He realized that he had been unkind and thoughtless to his wife, but when he tried to make amends he was met with a cool rebuff. A close friend sensed the situation and inquired ab ou t the strange change that had come into the lives of these two. He was assured that it was a misunderstanding, but the husband couldn’t seem to get things straightened out. “ I have made sev- eral attempts without result,” he said. The friend offered to speak to the wife and explain her husband’s willingness to make up and restore their former happy relationship. It wasn’t difficult but it required an intermediary to initiate the make up procedure. The break was quickly mended when the three met and talked it over. Every unsaved person is es- stranged from God. God, Who has been slighted and rebuffed, is ready to make up at once. This is just the reverse in human relationships. In fact, God “made up” with every sin- ner when Jesus, His Son, died on Cal vary. The Word says, “Who has rec onciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the min istry of reconciliation.” Here the offender is the one who is unwilling to acknowledge his fail- ure and return. We, as Christians, are God’s ambassadors to lost sinners to speak for God and urge them to be reconciled to Him. This is our privilege and respon sibility. We are to invite every sin ner we meet to come and be recon- ciled to God. God is “made up” to them. He says, “ Behold I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him . . . (Rev. 3 :20).” Let us constrain men to return to God. We are His ambassadors of rec onciliation.
