Financial management • Control budgets for security operations, monitoring expenses and labour allocation including overtime ensuring budgets are brought in on target against an annual budget of £2.2m. Customer Service/Communications • Ensure excellent communication with all customers, ensuring all staff comply with Customer Service Training standards. . • Provide proactive awareness and responsive advice to students, staff and visitors, disseminating relevant information on personal safety and crime prevention • Provide a helpful and supportive security service sensitive to the residential context in which the main campus exists Staff Management Strong, resilient, leadership and management of the in-house security team, ensuring that all staff adopt a professional approach to their duties and promote a positive image for the University. In particular, selection and recruitment, induction and training, performance monitoring (1 to 1’s, appraisals and performance management), monitoring and development of staff, welfare, motivation (monthly team meetings etc) and discipline. Compliance • To ensure compliance with all Health and Safety Legislation and City, University of London Security policies and procedures relating to areas of operation reporting to the post and that all necessary risk assessments (including building security) are carried out and kept up to date, preparing recommendation reports and action plans as required. • To ensure that workplace and staff welfare and other health and safety issues and legislation are observed at all times, including compliance with City, University of London Human Resources policies and procedures.

• Be conversant with and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, e.g. the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, the Security Industry Act and The General Data Protection Regulation 2018, amongst others. • Act as Fire Incident Manager and point of liaison with London Fire Brigade in the event of emergency. Ensure fire safety systems are monitored, incidents investigated and evacuation managed according to agreed university plans. Manage an inspection regime for fire exits and other important aspects of fire safety as set out in agreed safety procedures. • Maintain systems to address, document and work alongside Safety Office and others (e.g. first aiders, Safety Liaison and Deputy Safety Liaison Officers). • Ensure that all relevant security activities including PPMs and other associated documentation relating to KPI compliance and reporting. General • To maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training • To undertake any related additional duties as reasonably required by the Director of Property and Facilities and Head of Facilities Services Management.
