The World Passeth Away What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36). This world is a grand piece of prop erty, but should any man succeed in gaining it all at the forfeit of his soul, he would have made the world’s worst bargain. This world is passing away. Astronomers have swept the heavens with powerful telescopes, and they de clare that many other worlds have disappeared in the past two centuries. Geology proves this world is now on fire so that the blazes of the last days are already kindled. God Almighty speaks of a “ day . . . in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up” (2 Pet. 3:10). This world is not a permanent fixture in the universe. A little hole in the earth is all the richest man has in death, and even the deed to that belongs to his heirs! . — C. A. Cooper My Grace Is Sufficient for Thee The other evening I was riding home after a heavy day’s work; I felt very wearied, and sore depressed, when swift ly, and suddenly as a lightning flash, that text came to me: “ My grace is sufficient for thee.” I reached home and. looked it up in the original, and at last it came to me in this way, “My grace is sufficient for thee,” and I said, “ I should think it is, Lord,” and burst out laugh ing. I never fully understood what the holy laughter of Abraham was until then. It seemed to make unbelief so absurd. It was as though some little fish, being very thirsty, was troubled about drinking the river dry, and Father Thames said, “ Drink away, little fish, my stream is sufficient for thee.” Or, it seemed like a little mouse in the gran aries of Egypt, after the seven years of plenty, fearing it might die of famine; Joseph might say, “ Cheer up, little mouse, my granaries are sufficient for thee.” Again, I imagined a man away M A R C H , 1 9 5 2 Too many people advertise their cares instead of their wares. And thine ears shall hear a voice be hind thee saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand and when ye turn to the left (Isa. 30:21).
