who is trying to cut us down for eternal loss, may we remember the words of the battle-scarred Apostle who “fought a good fight,” “ Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things . . . and the God of peace shall be with you.” laid aside his tobacco; and his disposi tion, formerly rather hard and unfeel ing, has become sweet and tender. Sometime after Frank’s conversion, his aged and ailing mother came to live with them. Lovingly Edna tended her, concerned about Grandma’s soul as she nursed her body. But she couldn’t speak Dutch, and Frank seemed unable to deal with his mother, anxious though he was for her salvation. She had gone to church all her life, but had no evidence of peace in her heart. Finally a born-again friend who could speak her language came out to the farm. Carefully she and Grandma went over the verses in the Dutch Bible that made God’s plan of salvation clear and plain. Through this Grandma re ceived assurance of salvation through simple faith in Christ. Not long there after, she was laid to rest, to await the Resurrection Day when Christ shall call His own, living and dead, to their Eter nal Home. No doubt, Prank’s fervent desire for Grandma’s spiritual welfare was, under God, a major factor in bringing about her conversion. He and Edna continue their morning devotions, and with the boys back from the war, married and in their own homes, they don’t have to watch the clock any more, but can really pour out their gratitude to God and re member in prayer all that He lays upon their hearts. Frank is indeed a monu ment to the transforming power of prayer and the Gospel. But what if, on that dreadful day of trial and testing, Edna had not surren dered her all to Jesus Christ? And what if she had not kept the vows she made to Him? The Ladder of Prayer Prayer is the stairway to Heaven And whosoever will may climb; The child in its morning beauty; The old man bowed with time; The king in his royal raiment; The outcast clothed in crime, For prayer is the stairway to Heaven And whosoever will may climb. —Gospel Banner T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S No Hope But God (Continued from Page 13)
