ment law could not be perfectly kept by anyone. When the Lord Jesus came He provided salvation through belief in His death upon the. cross for our sins; but those who truly love Him will want to keep the ten commandments to show their love for Him. Christians will do more than keep the law; they will con stantly be looking for other ways to show their love for the Lord Jesus and their love for others. Did you notice that the young man said, “ What shall I do to be saved?” So many religions and people today are trying to do good works, give to the poor, do kindly acts for others, be po lite, join a church, put some money in the offering, and many other things to work their way to Heaven. The relig ions of the world are religions of do. The Lord Jesus Christ teaches us that He has paid the price for our salvation already. Our “ religion” is done. We must only accept that which He has already done for us to be assured of eternal life. Are you trying to buy or earn or work your way to Heaven? God says that all of our righteousnesses (the good things in our life) are as filthy rags in his sight. How simple it is to just believe His promise, “ Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” KOREA NEEDS CHRIST Your gift will help supply the people of K orea with free gospel tracts presen ting the way o f salvation in their own language. driven to this: “ By deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified in his sight; for through the law cometh the knowl edge of sin" (Rom. 3:20 A.E.V. margin). The commandments of the law, heard from Mount Sinai or from the Mount of Beatitudes, can do nothing but condemn the sinner. They demand the prostration of every man at the foot of the Cross. A Misconception of the Law Mark 10:17-22 The rich young ruler was wrong in attitude, word and action as revealed in this passage. He had a wrong idea with respect to Christ, thinking of Him only as a Jewish Rabbi (vv. 17-18). He had a wrong idea as to how to be saved, thinking that it was through “ doing” (v. 17). He imagined that he had kept the whole law (v. 19 and compare Matt. 19:19), but his response to the Lord’s command (v. 21) clearly demonstrates that he did not “love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matt. 19:19) which is the summary of the entire second table of the law. The Lord’s Word to the ruler to sell his goods and give the proceeds to the poor cut him to the heart. He realized then that he had not kept the law in its inner and deeper meaning. This young man failed miserably also in refusing to heed the Lord’s Word, “ come . . . and follow me.” The true purpose of the law is to make men realize the need of a Saviour and to put their trust in Him (Gal. 3:24f.). Here is where the man of our story failed. We hope that later on he came to his senses and found Christ as his Saviour, but this we do not know. “ Come” ; this is man’s first duty. Come to Christ as Saviour. In this way the sin question is settled forever. Then “follow me,” says Christ. In these two words there is a summation of Christianity: “ Come” and “ follow”. Every one who heeds these words will find a life of victory and will come at last to Heaven. Helps ior the Children Jesus Teaches God’s Law Matthew 5:17-20; Mark 10:17-22; John 1:17 Memory Verse: “ Give me understand ing, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart” (Psa. 119:34). One day when the Lord Jesus Christ was serving His Father upon the earth, a rich young man came running and knelt at His feet saying, “ Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” When the Saviour re minded the young man of the Old Tes tament laws, he replied that he had kept all of these from his youth. The Saviour looked into the young man’s heart and knew that he did not truly love God with all of his being. The young man was loving his money more than he loved God. When the Saviour told him to sell his possessions and give to the poor, the man went away grieved or sorrowful, choosing his money rather than the Lord Jesus. The Old Testa
