Why did you volunteer to be a Wellbeing Officer? In the past, I have struggled to both recognise when colleagues have been experiencing difficulties with their mental wellbeing. It’s not easy to know the best way to help someone who reaches out. I want to be the best work-friend I can be. Why should we look after our physical and mental wellbeing? We all have so many demands in our work and personal lives that it’s important we look after ourselves. We should be mindful that our colleagues have a life outside of work, and there may be other things happening that have an impact on their wellbeing.
What are some of the ways we can challenge stigma around mental health? The fact that we have Wellbeing Officers, and wellbeing training is a great step. I love that we have safe spaces for people to talk about mental health. What do you do to look after your wellbeing? I’d like to think that I’m honest when I’m really struggling. I often unload on friends and family, which gets stresses off my chest. I spend some part of every day doing something I enjoy, even if it’s reading or watching something trashy before bed.
