blood for the sins of the world. In thinking of Christmas and gifts, let us never forget the greatest of all gifts, God’s gift of His Son. December 30, 1951 A C ounting C lock Object: An alarm clock with an illuminated dial. Lesson: How is this alarm clock dif ferent from most alarm clocks? •“ It has an illuminated dial.” Yes, you are right. Do you know

have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you” (Jos. 23:16). We will open this little door in this heart. It now reads, “ LOST.” They lost much because of their disobedience. This should be a solemn warning to all those who do not love God, and lust after forbidden things. Objects: A large six-pointed silver star, made of silver paper. (Cut the letters C-H-R-I-S-T from the paper and paste one on each of the points of the star. In the middle of the star paste a red cross. Fold each point forward where it joins the body of the star. Stick the points together with transparent tape where they meet. When all points are folded and fastened together, the appearance will be that of a hexagonal pyramid. The letters and cross will be on the inside. Tie with a silver ribbon to give the appearance of a gift pack age.) December 23, 1951 S tar S tudy Lesson: Did you ever look at a Christmas package and try to figure out by its shape and size what it contained? Yes, I think we all have. Try to guess what this package has in it. Now I will untie the ribbon and show you what the package contains. “ Just a silver star.” It is not merely a star. We must remember that the greatest gift God ever gave to the world was accompanied by a star. As we turn this star around, we see that there are letters on each of the points. We will start with the letter “ C” and notice what it spells. “ Christ.” The star of Bethlehem showed the wise men where to find Christ. In the center of this star is a red cross. It reminds us of the cross on which Christ, God’s greatest gift, died and shed His GOSPEL OBJECT TRICK TALKS. READY made, Paper tearing, Magic chemics. 200 Titles. Free samples. LÆD__ what makes this clock visible in the dark? During the day, it drinks in the rays of light, and then it is ready to give out light when darkness comes. If you want to prove this, take a clock with an illuminated dial and at night hold it close to a bright electric light. Then turn off the light and see how much more brightly the clock shines than it did before. This clock reminds me of people so much that I am going to name it Carl. If you were to take Carl and put him in a dark room every day, and not allow him to have any light, it would not be long until he would stop shining. This clock is a counting clock. I hear someone say, “ Don’t all clocks that are running count?” , Yes, they count off the time, but Joshua, like this clock, made his life count in the dark as well as in the light. I told you that Joshua lived in a dark time of Israel’s history. When he was giving his last message to them he reminded them of God’s blessings. He mentioned the names of their great men, such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses. He called to their minds the times when God had delivered them, such as at the Red Sea. He then said, “ Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Josh. 24:14,15). Here we can see Joshua making his life count for God, even in the darkness of the heathenism around him. God wants us to be true to him when it is difficult, even as did Joshua.
