Dear Friends & Family,
“Let’s build a home together” has been resonating through the studios of Dancers’ Workshop this spring. With many staff members facing housing and rising rent challenges, we recognize just how important we all are to each other. Contemporary Dance Wyoming began with the vision of Artistic Director Babs Case years ago when Dancers’ Workshop rented basement studios in the historic Pink Garter Plaza. The vision was to gather an ensemble of professional dancers who would also provide the DW School with professional dance education. Today Associate Artistic Director Fran Romo plays a major role in the company as a choreographer and a performer. After becoming familiar with Dancers’ Workshop while performing here with London-based Richard Alston Dance and New York-based Gallim Dance, Fran decided to relocate to Jackson. Now celebrating its 23rd season, CDW represents the pinnacle of expressive and innovative modern dance in Wyoming. Tonight’s program UP CLOSE, CDW’s annual performance project, will feature two programs, fondly named X and O. Choreographic works from multiple local creatives will be included, thus demonstrating an athletic range of diverse styles and artistic processes. Original music works from locally connected artists are also included this year. It felt important to Fran and me to support and bring focus to all the amazing creative artists within our community. We hope you enjoy our explorations, and join us in celebrating how lucky we are to have each other. Thank you for your support by being here tonight. Let’s build an artful home together, –Babs and Fran
