Jasmine helped me get one of the girls into the car so I could kill her, though in the movie I called her, “Princess.” DD: What’s John Barrymore up to these days? JB: I’m doing more acting work now than I ever was when trying to pursue an acting career; people have been throwing jobs at me, bigger and better parts all the time, simply because I’m much more castable now than back when I was a skinny red-headed kid, there are just a lot more parts for me: Casual Grandpa, Creepy Grandpa, Dying of Cancer Grandpa, Hitchhiker Massacre-ing Grandpa, you name it. It’s the white hair – redheads never go gray, the red hair just fades to white, so even though I’m 63, people seem to notice the hair first and their impression is that I’m older than my chronological age. So I have a lot of films that are finished but not yet released including Tales of Frankenstein directed by Don Glut (it’s four separate stories, and I have the lead in the second of the four) and Fake News directed by Chris Edwards. Eric Roberts is in that one and the last time I saw Eric was maybe thirty years ago. He knew I would be working on the film but
clearly had no idea who I was until I announced myself and the same thing happened to me the other day when I ran into two old and very good friends whom I hadn’t seen since my father’s wake in 2004. No one from my past recognizes me because I don’t have red hair anymore. I also did a cameo in your music video which was fun and I brought Jasmine on set with me there, too! By the way, about four years ago I was playing Hamlet up at the Forest Theater Carmel. Well, Hamlet is younger than I was so I dyed my hair, not red, that would look ridiculous at this point, but a realistic color, dark ash blonde or light ash brown. I would just be walking down a street in Monterey and the same girls, that is the same age girls who were flirting with me twenty-five years ago, girls in their late twenties and early thirties, were flirting with me again. It made me think, “Really? Is it that stupid? Is it really that stupid? Is that really all it takes?” Apparently it is just that stupid, and that is all it takes! But Jasmine doesn’t seem to care, she likes me whichever color I am!
