DECEMBER 18 More than Pious Feeling

loved me, and gave himself fo r me” (Gal. 2 : 20 ). “ I have been crucified with Christ.” What a transformation! “ Nevertheless I live.” It is a new vision. Do you remem ber Dr. Fullerton's story about the temp tress of St. Augustine, who, after Augus tine’s conversion came face to face with him, and sought to lure him back to the old filthy ways? Looking amorously into his face, she said: “It is I !” and he re plied: “ But it is not I.” “I have been cru cified with Christ.” This is the “new I.” . . . . Christ thinking in ug, Speaking through us, acting in u s;(Christ living in us.! It is a very profound truth but a very blessed one.— G uy H. K ing . "A ll the people wept, when they heard the words o f the law. Then he [Ezra] said unto them, . , . . the joy o f the Lord is your strength”, (Neh. 8 :9, 10). Godly sorrow is a good thing, and soon opens the way for divine joy. Those who weep at their Town shortcomings and sins are soonest comforted by God’s longsuffer- ing and pardon. Jjby iswstrength. Those who have lost or have never found “the j oy of thy salvation,” cannot be strong nor do exploits..'The figment o f a gloomy Chris tianity has no ground nor cause in God’s Word.— H ubert B rooke ;;?1 Feasting on the riches o f His grace, Resting ’neath His sheltering wing, Always looking on His smiling face, That is why I shout and sing. —L uther B urgess B ridgers . DECEMBER 17 Joy in the Lord

“ O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker" (Psa. 95:6). There are some who seem to speak of emotion as though it were an evil force in religion, but it is impossible to think of the sacrifice of Calvary, and the everlast ing love o f God, without the heart’s being moved to its very depths. We cannot help feeling profound emotion when we remem ber the way in which love lifted us out of the pit, and set our feet upon the rock; but we must be careful lest the emotion prove to be little more than a cul-de-sac. It must lead to something; it must lead to a revised way of life; it must stimulate a deeper obedience to the will of God; it must re move the reproach that while His.rpeople seek Him daily, they are, nevertheless, committed to paths of transgression. — S elected . DECEMBER 19 Faith Being Strengthened “ There hath not failed one word of all his good promise" (1 Ki. 8 :56). We are made to remember in the hour of need that God has said, “ Call upon me in the day of trouble} I will deliver thee.” Faith believes this word, calls upon God, and finds herself delivered; thus she is strengthened,; and made to glorify the Lord. Sometimes faith . . . has to wait awhile. Promises? afford training-ground for faith. These are poles and leaping bars for the athletic exercise of our young faith, by the use of which it grows to be so
