Girls' Query Corner

Conducted by M yrtle E. S cott to go about it, I could secure information about the others. I am studying the prayers of the Bible and am reading every book I can find that deals with the subject of prayer. An inter cessor—like any others of God’s servants— surely needs preparation. Prayer changes things and prayer changes us. I thank God for calling me into this great work. Yours in His happy service, (Miss) Alice Marjorie Butler, North Collins, N.Y. My dear Miss Butler: During the months since the publication of the letter of the shut-in to whom you refer, many missionaries from all parts of the world have written asking to be put in tbuch with the writer that they might re quest her prayer fellowship in their work. This fact indicates the need of prayer help ers that is felt by those who are in the service of the Lord and especially by those who are working in the midst of heathen darkness. Paul’s request, “Brethren, pray for us” (1 Thess. 5:25), has been echoed by every true servant of the Lord who has a heart burden for souls and for the glory of the Lord and who realizes the power and cunning of the evil one. These work ers recognize that man is impotent unless the Holy Spirit fills the life and accom plishes the task. In the deepening gloom of the closing days of this age, the need for intercessors is greater than ever. This

is a work in which any born-again soul can and should be engaged. Let no one say there is no place for her in the Lord’s serv ice when this, the greatest ministry of all. is waiting and needing those who conse crate themselves to God for the task. May I make a few suggestions and give some Bible references for you and any others who may feel led unto this ministry of intercession? An important point is to be definite in your praying. Seek to know as far as possible the special needs, and then bring them to the Lord one by one. Con sider the conditions for a successful prayer life. Read the following passages to see the need: of holy living (Psa, 66:18; Isa. 59:2; John 15:7; 1 John 3 :2 2 ); of real desire and faith (Mk. Ilr2 4 ); of holy boldness (Heb. 4:16), and of perseverance (Psa. 55:17; Matt 7 :7 ). Remember that our prayer must be for God’s glory, according to His will, and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (Jas. 4:3; 1 John 5:14, 15; John 16:23). In Romans 8:26, 27, we are given the promise of the help of the Spirit in guiding us in prayer. Matthew 18:19 gives a special promise for believers who unite in prayer. Some of the Lord’s children may find a special field of service in gathering together groups of Christian friends and neighbors for definite times of prayer for special missionary fields or other phases of Christian work. This is not an easy work, but it is vital and it will bring much blessing and fruitfulness to those who are willing to pay the price to be thus used.

Questions for answer in this corner should be sent to Miss Scott, 8961 Dicks St., West Hollywood, Calif., and a stamped envelppe should be enclosed for reply. No name will appear with the questions chosen for publication, unless, as in the present in stance, special permission is sought from the sender of the question. Dear Miss Scott: I have just been reading the Girls’ Query Comer of the March, 1938, issue of T he K ing ’ s B usiness , and surely it was God’s leading that I should read this particular number. The letter was written by a shut-in who desired to be a missionary, but had been injured in an automobile accident, so is confined to her room. I, too, have been kept in my room for nearly a year, recovering from a heart condition caused by numerous attacks of rheumatic fever. How long I will have to stay here, only God knows, but this I do know: His way is the best way, and to be happy we must be in the center of His will. God has blessed me in a mar velous way, and His Word truly has come to be the joy and rejoicing of my heart. Now for my request. Would you please send me a list of names of missionaries who would be glad for a prayer partner? God has called me to this work, and I have been given a number of missionaries to pray for already. However, from only two missions do I receive any information. My heart just rejoices when I am informed of what the Lord has done. Perhaps, if I knew how
