these dishes were sacred, and he put them away where no one would use them. But his son Belshazzar was not that kind of man. He had respect for no one, neither God nor man. One night while he was drinking and feasting with his court, he called for these cups and filled them with wine and handed them to his guests to drink from. Then worst of all, he and his friends drank to the praise of the gods made of gold and silver. Now God in His heaven knew what Belshazzer was doing, how he was dis obeying the commandment, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Suddenly, in the midst of the feast, there appeared the fingers of a hand, and they wrote some strange words on the wall. The king saw it and turned pale. What did this mean? Who could tell him what it said? Daniel was called, and he explained God’s message to the king. He said, “Thou . . . O Belshazzar . . . hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven . . . God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it . . . Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting . . . Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians." And that same night the enemy came, Belshazzar was killed, and the kingdom was divided. Object Lesson P reserving a P icture Objects: A picture representing Christ, and pictures cut from magazines adver tising cigarettes, whiskey, dances, and theaters. Lesson: I want to show you the picture representing the Lord Jesus which I like best. It is the one in the Garden of Gethse mane, where He went to pray. I have some other pictures here, and I want to ask you whether you think they would look good in this frame with the picture of Jesus. 2 Chronicles 26:3 Sixteen years old was Uz- ziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. 4 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah did. 5 And he sought God in the days of Zecha- riah. who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper. 16 But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the Lord his God, and went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense upon the altar of incense. 17 And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the Lord, that were valiant men: 18 And they*withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the Lord, but to the riests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to urn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed: neither shall it be for thine honor from the Lord God. 19 Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, from beside the incense altar. 20 And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, ana behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the Lord had smitten him. 21 And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house,

Here is one of a bottle of whiskey. Would it be all right to put that in with Jesus’ picture? “No, He would not want anything to do with whiskey.” You are right—it would be out of place to put such a picture in the same frame with His. W e have a picture of a package of cigarettes. Do you think it would be any more fitting than the whiskey in the same frame with Jesus’ picture? “No, neither one should be close to His picture.” Well, here is an ad for a dance hall. Would that look any better? “No, that wouldn’t do, either.” I have one more picture. It is an an nouncement of a show. The people who planned this performance and take part in it are not seeking to know God and to obey Him. Can you imagine that Jesus would attend shows if He were on earth today? Boys and girls, you have been right "in saying that these worldly pictures should not be placed in the same frame with Christ's picture; but have you stopped to realize that many Christians have some of these things in their lives as well as Christ? W e would not think of defiling His picture with these other pictures, and we are right in that, but we ought to be even more careful not to have anything displeasing to Him in the life in which He dwells. being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the Lord: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land. Lesson Text: 2 Chron. 26:3-5, 16-21. Golden Text: “Every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that hum- bleth himself shall be exalted” (Lk. 18:14). Devotional Reading: Psa. 112:1-7. Outline and Exposition I. U zziah ’ s P rivileges (3-5) U ZZIAH came to the throne when he was sixteen years of age, bringing to it the results of the example of his father, Amaziah, and the influence of his mother, whose name, Jecoliah, means “made strong of the Lord.” His father had been a good king, doing right in the eyes of the Lord, and, until the close of his reign, having favor with God. The begin ning of the youthful Uzziah’s reign gave indication that it would be a good one be cause “he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord” (v. 4 ).
