him "instruction"! If there is any time that a man needs prayer and teaching, it is in the day of his success. It is when we are strong, not when we are weak, that we are in the greatest danger. The strength of God is made perfect in our weakness. If you should read verses 1 to 15 of this chapter rather carelessly, you might get the notion that Uzziah’s greatness consisted in the remarkable things he accomplished— cities, walls, towers, armies, cattle, vine yards, great war engines, etc. And that was doubtless where he made his tragic mistake. Looking at all these great works, he forgot the instruction of Zechariah. He forgot what men are forgetting today, namely, that military security and eco nomic prosperity are results, not causes. The intellectuals talk learnedly about the “economic interpretation" of h isto ry , foolishly forgetting the instruction of the prophets that it is God who has the last word In human affairs. A well-known minister wished to ascend a tower that commanded a fine view of the surrounding country. "Come this way, sir,” said the guide, leading him to some steps which looked as though they led down Into a vault. "But I want to ascend, not descend!” "This is the way up, sir.” A few steps down led to many steps up. He reached the top, and a fine pano ramic landscape lay before him. So his Guide led Joseph down that He might lead him up to those heights of vision and power prepared for those who honor Him. — The Sunday School Chronicle. Memory Verse: “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High” (Psa. 92:1). Approach: Today we are going to talk about another one of the kings of Judah who started out by being a very good king. no one but a priest might do this, and priests were appointed by God. When the priests who were in the temple tried to stop him, Uzziah would not listen. He took the censer and was about to burn the in cense when suddenly God punished him. He began to break out with spots of leprosy. And to the day of his death, he was a leper. As long as King Uzziah sought God and was humble, God blessed him, but when he became proud, God destroyed him. The Bible says, “The Lord will destroy the house of the proud.”

Object Lesson S lim and F at

Objects: Two bottles filled with water, one tall and slender, the other short and wide: two corks: some black ink; a rubber band, and a piece of stiff wire. (Twist one end of the wire around the neck of the slim bottle, allowing the other end to project upward about three or four inches. Make a crook in the wire turning the end back toward the bottle. Fasten a rubber band, which has a cork attached to it, to the end of the wire. The rubber band must be tight enough to pull the cork out when the cork is Inserted in the bottle. The cork should be loose-fitting). Lesson: I want to introduce you to two of my friends: “Slim” and "Fat.” These two are like you, in that they attend Sun day-school. While they both have been attending Sunday-school, still they are en tirely different. “Slim” came to Sunday- school just to have as much fun as pos sible. He did not care to hear and obey God’s Word. This is the way he acted whenever his teacher or the minister tried to teach God’s Word to him. He refused to accept it. The cork comes out every time. “Fat” remembered the words of the Psalmist, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psa. 119:11). He accepted Christ as his Saviour, and at every opportunity he ac cepted and obeyed the Word of God. I will place this cork marked “God’s Word” in the mouth of this bottle to show how he Was protected. Now see what happens! This black ink, which represents sin, can be dropped easily into the slim bottle. The water is dis colored. The ink does not reach the water in the other bottle. “Slim” reminds me of King Uzziah, who sinned in intruding into the priest’s work and was smitten with leprosy. If he had hidden God’s Word in his heart, he would have been kept from this terrible sin.

enemy of his country; he fortified Jerusa lem by digging walls and building towers, and he had plenty of soldiers. "And his name spread far abroad for he was marvel ously helped, till he was strong.” And all of this time, he sought God, and depended on Him. As long as he did this, he pros pered. But after a while, things changed with him. He became proud. He wanted to be not only king of his people, but he wished to be their priest as well. One day, he walked into the temple and prepared to burn incense on the altar. Now
