FAM ILY C IRC LE been serving for nearly four years in the Church of the Brethren, where Mr. Coffman is pastor. Mr. Coffman is Director of Christian Education in the Northern Cali­ fornia District of his church and is a mem­ ber of the National Board of Christian Education. Mr. and Mrs. Coffman have three sons, John, Jr., 16; David, 10, and Richard, 6. B. F. Stead, ’14, 2237-33rd St., Sacra­ mento, Calif., has been serving as a Sun­ day-school missionary under the Board of National Missions of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., for nearly twenty- five years. During the past year there have been 104 decisions for Christ in connection with Mr. Stead’s work. Edgar B. (1 6 ) and Mrs. Luther, 100 W . 8th St., The Dalles, Ore., have been in their present location for eleven years, Mr. Luther being pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church. During 1937-38 he served as president of the Oregon State Baptist Con­ vention. Speaking of frequent decisions for Christ in the regular church services, he writes: “The Word of God, that became dear to us during our Biola training, is still the power of God when used by the Holy Spirit." Mr. and Mrs. Luther have four children, Lawrence, 16; Bob, 14; Jane Ellen, 13, and Mabel Esther, 9. Neil J. Barnes, 19, is pastor of the First Baptist Church of Marshfield, Ore., having served there for five years. Kenneth and Mrs. Chrisman (Edith Carlson, ’35) have been living in La Grande, Ore. They are engaged in Ameri­ can Sunday School Union work. Lyle R. (’36) and Mrs. Hagan, 827 S. Tower Ave., Centralia, Wash., have been serving for three years as missionaries of the American Sunday School Union. They have a little son, Michael Robert, one and a half years of age. Earl S. (Th. B. ’36) and Mrs. Kalland, 38 Spring Park Ave., Jamaica Plain, Mass., have been nearly three years in the work of the Rock Hall Baptist Church of Jamaica Plain, Boston, Mass., where Mr. Kalland is pastor. H. Norman Korb, '34, has been attend­ ing Gordon College of Theology and Mis­ sions, Boston, Mass., and has been Director of Boys’ Work at Ruggles Street Baptist Church, Boston. Mr. Korb has been living with Earl S. and Mrs. Kalland. Samuel Bullock, '35, was graduated from Gordon College of Theology and Missions, Boston, Mass., on June 6. With the Lord Henry F. Fast, ’21, who served in Colombia, S. A., under the Christian and Missionary Alliance, recently went to be with the Lord. Y ears of ill health had made his pioneer trips in late years a ministry of particular self-sacrifice. A missionary from his field wrote that a memorial service held in one large congregation resulted in the dedication of the lives of twenty-five young men and women to the will of God. The Bible Institute Spring Alumni Reunion M EMBERS of the Biola Alumni Association gathered on the even­ ing of June 5 in the Institute Dining Room for the annual spring fel­ lowship banquet of the organization. A. L. Forde, '22, President, was chairman of the program in which faculty members and a representative of the Class of 1939 carried out the theme of Psalm 37. At the after­ noon business session, the members elected the following officers to direct the work of the Alumni Association for the coming year: Peter F. \ValI, '21—President; Dud­ ley L. Girod, '31—Vice-President; Helen J. White, '20—Secretary; Avalon L. Berg­ strom, '34—Treasurer. Sowing and Reaping B IOLA ALUMNI in the vicinity of Salem, Ore., met recently for an in­ formal gathering at the home of Mrs. Fred J. Tooze, Jr. (Ruth E. Tibbits, ’25). Guests present included Curtis G. Elliott, '24; Roy H. and Mrs. Fuller (Rebecca Harrison, ’27); Eunice Hart, '26, and Margaret Thome, '34. H. Gordon Hyde, Th. B. '38, who was married to Mildred A. McFarlane in June, is pastor of the Baptist Church of Safford, Ariz. The address of Mr. and Mrs. Hyde is 308 Seventh St. Clifford S. Ramsdale, '21, 1221 Wilson Ave., Fresno, Calif., has been serving for the past year as pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of Fresno. Elwood Gray, '32, received the degree of Bachelor of Theology in May from Pasa­ dena College, Pasadena, Calif. William F. Gillespie, '32, is pastor of the Knox Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, Calif. Byron W . Travis, '25, 3516 N.E. 71st Ave., Portland, Ore., has been serving as pastor of the Unity Presbyterian Church of Portland. Without holding special meet­ ings but with the honoring of Christ and the Word of God in the regular services, there have been well over fifty conversions in the church in the past fifteen months. Fred A. Johnson, '22, Tuba City, Ariz., has served nearly seventeen years as a missionary to the Hopi Indians, under the Mennonite Board of Foreign Missions. Earl A. (’31) and Mrs. Bruneau and their three children, Janet, Angus, and Grace, have been living at 7 Delaware Ave., Toronto, Ont., Can., where Mr. Bruneau is superintendent of the Toronto Jewish Mission. Mr. Bruneau writes: “I will never forget the beginning of Jewish work in the school of my ‘first iove,’ Biola. May God keep her steadfast, unmovable, and always usable in His ministry." Mrs. Alfred Jeffery (Mildred Robb, ’27) 2107 Lamona Ave., Fresno, Calif., writes that her husband has had to give up his pastorate in the United Presbyterian Church because of ill health. AN ALASKA VACATION California Christian Endeavor Union is announcing the fact that members of the Union are going to Alaska this summer for another of the very popular Christian Endeavor Fellowship Tours. The voyage to Alaska affords an ideal opportunity for rest, Christian fellowship, and a close acquaintanceship with the missionary acti­ vities of Protestant churches in southeast Alaska. The Yukon Trail tour is scheduled for the dates of July 8 to 22. Howard L. Brown is personally taking a special tour during the period from August 12 to 28. It is not necessary to be a mem­ ber of Christian Endeavor to join these parties.
