influence to keep his church out of the campaign. JDuring the first week of the meeting he. buried his daughter, who died very suddenly. Is it safe for any man to refuse the call of God to a spiritual expe- rience. History proves that it is not. You will notice Isaiah saw the Lord in the temple. He was not walking in the counsel of the ungodly nor standing in the .way of sinners nor. sitting in the seat of the scornful. He was not engaged in heath enish practice.s. He was in the temple where he belonged. We Have in this coun try a class of fanatics who are known as “Come-outers.” They have split and ré-split until some have seceded from the seceders. Chaos and confusion hâve fol lowed in their wake. Freakish doctrines and immoral practices have disgraced many of them and they have brought reproach upon the name of, God and the church of Jesus. Stand by the church. You cannot do it any good by leaving it. If you are the salt of the earth, stay in the church and show your power. It is very interesting to notice the vision of Isaiah. The Lord was sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up and his train filled the temple. Jehovah’s throne appeared first to him. Isaiah saw that' he must place the Lord above all earthly thrones, and first within his heart. INTERESTING STORY What he saw and heard and- said forms an interesting story. Above the throne stood the seraphim : each one had six wings ; with twain he covered his face ; with twain he covered his feet and with twain he did fly. What a glorious picture of reverence in performing holy service about the throne pf the Lord ! The sera- ,phim are the burning ones who minister in the things of fire around, the heavenly altars. The cherubim are the knowing ones, the ones who are, said to know the secrets of God. Listen to the words of the seraphim, those intimate associates of the Lord, those fiery messengers of heaven. They cried one to the other, saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. The whole

earth is full of His glory.” Suppose the one who knows you best should be com pelled to speak his knowledge of your moral character as the seraphim reveal the holi ness of the' Lord' in their burning words, “Holy, holy, holy!" I consider it the greatest honor of life that one can live so consistently as Christian fathers and moth ers that our children will have perfect con fidence in the religion we profess, for their ideas of religion are formed by our lives and. our practice, far more than by our words or precepts. Suppose a visitor should astonish us with his "strange appearance at this time, and upon inquiry I should find him to be a messenger from Mars. Task the purport of his mission and he tells me that the peo ple of Mars have heard that Christ died for sinners upon this earth and that there are millions of people upon the earth now who call themselves Christians. He has there fore been delegated to bring his photo graphic outfit to earth- that he might take the pictures of the best representatives of Jesus Christ in this and many other cities upon this planet. I wonder how many of my hearers are willing to pose for such a picture. No visitor from Mars is here today. The Son of God is here. The Holy Spirit is here. Behold, the excar- nate, intangible Father, God, the unseen Spirit, is here searching, trying, knowing all our hearts. Let us be still in His pres ence. May the Spirit of God reveal our hearts to ourselves. | FIRST THINGS FIRST These are days, in which men are con stantly emphasizing scholarship, earthly position, social genius, personal magnet ism ; and everywhere the effort seems to be to defy education. Before the present World War broke out, scholarship seemed to mean all that the college and ■ university in America could give, and then, a special stamp, “Made in Germany,” had to be burned into the fabric of the man, or he was considered by a certain coterie as an incurable ignoramus. These critics have analyzed Peter’s Pentecostal sermon, and
