Absolute Surrender A T the close of the American Civil War, •^immediately after the fall of Richmond, which was the citadel of the Southern Con federacy, the leaders and generals of both parties met together in a small farmhouse to discuss the terms of peace. The Con federate leaders spread- out their maps on the fable and then proceeded to -state what they were willing to surrender—a fortress here, cities there, and a province yonder. The Federal leader^ listened in silence, and, when all those offers were concluded, they made one simple, crushing reply—“The Government of the North must have all.” Jesus Christ wants all or nothing. He demands a “Full Surrender.” Love for the Bible The R'ev. C. H. Spurgeon was once shown a Bible which was carelessly, put by a servant into a damp cellar. A certain kind of worm had eaten a hole through the Bible from hoard to board. The lady of the house expected Mr. Spurgeon to say: “What a careless servant,” but he didn t. He held the Bible in his hands, lifted up his eyes to heaven and prayed. “Lord make me a worm like that.” May fre all have the desire to be worms like that. Guarding our Speech In certain places in the Alps travelers are warned to keep silence, lest the vibra tions of sound should bring down aval anches of snow and pieces of rocks. This seems like a little parable reminding us that one little word spoken in haste and anger and bitterness may do much harm. We need to pray with the Psalmist (Psalm 141:3).

Fleeting^ Opportunity A gentleman tells how he stood by the railroad and watched the postmaster hang out his bag to be caught ‘ by the mail express soon to pass. A few minutes later the train came thundering round the curve. The mail agent looked out of his car and then thrusting out an iron arm attached to the side of it, snatched the bagj and the train sped on its way. If the postmaster had been late, even a second late, he would have missed the mail. Be in time for Sal vation, for Too late, too» late, may be the cry ‘ Jesus of Nazareth has passed by.” The Deceitfulness of Sin Sixtus, when Cardinal, walked on crutches and professed to be dangerously ill. “Make, me a Pope,” said he, “for I shall only live a few days.” They made him a Pope, but once in the Papal Chair he threw aside his crutches and lived for years to annoy thé very men he had so cleverly deceived. Sin, like Sixtus, , is a clever deceiver, and if you dally with it, it will soon gain the mastery, and of all slavery that is the basest. Organ Fund Started Tp VERY music-loving individual who has ever sat in the splendid auditorium

of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, has recognized its ideal form as a setting for a great pipe-organ—the one thing lacking m its completeness. Since its completion; many persons, have been hoping that some consecrated man or, woman would come forward with an offer to donate an organ, but finally, in answer to prayer, a fund has been started for the purpose, the first check having been received some weeks ago. Persons wishing to contribute to the construction of an instrument worthy the cause and the fine structure it is designed to grace, are requested to make checks payable to Bible Institute of Los Angeles.
