THE KING’S BUSINESS

628

Our meetings during the past month have been greatly blessed of God, and all because of the faithful, men and women who have been praying for us. All we can do is to praise and thank God for it. “They looked unto Him, and were lightened.” Many have Come, this past month, to a knowledge of Him. In other words, they have- looked unto Him and have been lightened. Again we ring out the cry, “Brethren, pray for us!” intellectual, well groomed business man stepped up and requested a word. He told something of his life; a college man and student, had travelled widely, was appar ently “well fixed,” in splendid physical condition; home, family, and in fact every thing to make life happy and bright, but he admitted we had something which he lacked; a dedp unsatisfied hunger lay in his heart. We believe, before he left that night, he discovered who alone could fill that need—“Jesus only;” “prince” and “pauper,” both learned that He alone can satisfy. Again we were being thanked by an influ ential man in one of our meetings for a little pocket Testament we had mailed him on his birthday. He uncovered a hungry heart as he told of his determination to give Jesus Christ the first place in his life. On the way home ,we told the same old story into the ear of an overworked street car conductor, between the ringing of fares, answering all sorts of questions and issu ing transfers. We met him a few nights later and told it again: “Well, you Chris tians.seem to have something which makes you very happy. I was telling wife, and she wants to know if you won’t come down to the house some night and talk with us. She’s a church member but’ that’s all, and , we both need what you have.” The invita tion will mean his losing a whole night’s pay, and that means something with four

intending not only to work but to preach the Gospel. His wife and baby, the wife not yet a Christian, will meet him there.- Pray with us' that God will speak to his wife’s heart, and that he will be the means, in the Lord’s hand, of pointing many to Jesus Christ. | Many of our converts are now definitely working'" for the Lord while engaged in earning their livlihoo.d. Pray that they may be greatly used. A FRIEND crossing Broadway recently, as the Gospel auto wagon with its load of Christian workers was returning from a noon-day meeting, singing with all their hearts and voices the old familiar hymns, overheard a man ask the traffic officer, “Who is that crowd?” “Why those arc the boys from the Bible Institute, the happiest bunch of fellows in all Los An geles,” was the reply. When my friend repeated it to me I thought of the words, “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again- I say rejoice” ,for the life that experimentally iknows victory through the Lord Jesus has a message in its testimony which the poor, lonely,, tired heart of the world.is hunger ing: to get close to. Over and over again during these busy rushing days and nights; haye men from various walks in life said to us, “We want what you have.” We met a man last week, prematurely old, deep furrows in his face; sad eyed, bent back, white hair and slow of step, seedy; no home, friends, money, or place to sleep. He was just the worker’s age but would have easily passed for his father. We opened the scriptures tQ him and preached unto him Jesus. “1 need what you have, and tonight I have seen the way as never before.” So we knelt in prayer, and there came a new light and courage into this tired body and heart as he called upon the name of the Lord and went on his way rejoicing. As. we stood up, a keen eyed,
