jungle as it was getting dark again. Sadly, they started back to the hospital. They watched for tracks that Joseph might have made if he left the path. Sud denly Samuel stopped. “Look — here — he swept his tracks with a branch!” “ It hard to find path. Joseph good jungle boy!” Moses stooped closer to look at the tracks. “Listen!” Samuel stood still. “ I hear groan!” Moses said. Samuel shone the flashlight in to the deep grass, carefully watch ing for snakes! Moses cupped his ear with his hand and listened. “Me hear more groan — put light up higher!” Samuel pointed the flashlight in the direction of the groan. Moses slowly raised his bow and arrow and shot an old lion crouched ready to pounce on a pile o f leaves! Blinded by the light he roared and reeled from side to side, staggered into the brush and fell dead! “ Eeee oooo!” Moses screeched! Samuel and Moses ran to the heap of leaves and dug Joseph out! He was very sick! “God look after jungle boy real good.” Moses knew that an old lion, too old to hunt wild animals, was dangerous and would even at tack a human being. Samuel found two long poles and Moses got some tough vines. They wound the vines back and forth around the poles and made a pole litter. Gently they lifted Joseph, put him on the litter and dragged it out o f the deep woods. Joseph shivered from the chills and fever. Samuel and Moses cov ered him with their coats. They were tired and it was late, so they decided to wait until morn ing to travel. Samuel stood guard for the first part of the night. He was so sleepy he couldn’t keep his eyes open. He began to doze when he heard a grunting sound! “ It must be soemthing b ig ! The crunching of twigs are loud!” Samuel jumped up and turned on his flashlight! To be continued, E E

before." Yes, how wise it is to seek forgiveI T HAS BEEN wisely said, "Anger, as a mere expression of a wounded personality, is sinful, for it means that self is in com mand.” Christians are therefore warned in Ephesians to exercise constraint and to make up quickly with their brother if there has been a time of argument and angry words. The renowned William M. Thackeray and the famous Charles Dickens had a falling out and became bitter rivals. Just before Christ mas in 1863 they met in London and frigidly refused to recognize one another. Pricked in his conscience, however, Thackeray turned back, seized the hand of Dickens, and said he could no longer bear the coldness that existed between them. Dickens was touched; they parted with smiles. The old anger and jealousy was destroyed. Almost immediately afterward, Thackeray suddenly died. Sir Thomas Martin in his memoirs later wrote, ‘The next time I saw Dickens he was look ing down into the grave of his great rival. He must have rejoiced, I thought, that he had shaken hands so warmly a day or so ness now while we have the opportunity. Two other good men on one occasion also had a hot dispute and left one another in a rage. Remembering the exhortation of the Apostle, “ Let not the sun go down upon your wrath,” one was conscience-stricken and went to be reconciled with his brother. When he knocked at the door, his offended friend opened it, and seeing who it was, started back in astonishment and surprise. Before he could close the door the other cried out, “The sun is almost down!” This unexpected salutation reminded the second man of the words of Ephesians 4:26, and his heart was softened. With renewed warmth and affection he said, "Come in, Brother, come in!" A happy reconciliation followed. The lesson of today’s devotional can be summed up in four words: “Simmer Down Before Sundown!” THOT: The most glorious victory you can have over an enemy is to turn him into a friend!
