CONTACT US

Even with the availability of hundreds of standard precision tools and gages, sometimes measuring challenges are best solved with a specially made gage. It is critical to work hand-in-hand with engineers who are dedicated to making sure that an accurate and easy-to-use custom-made solution can be attained for specific application requirements. Since being established in 1958, The Starrett Special Gage Division has served the US Government, NASA, and virtually all industries in the metal working field. This includes aerospace, automotive, ordinance, as well as other fields such as, high technology plastics, food packaging, and medical components. Designed by engineers to minimize variables that influence the measurement, our gages are intended to save the customer manufacturing costs by increasing gaging accuracy and improving productivity. These custom gages, made by highly skilled gage makers, are lightweight, user friendly and produce accurate, repeatable results. At Starrett, we make and use electronic indicators, AGD dial, electronic and mechanical micrometer heads, and all of the other tools or gages that provide the output from the custom gage. We also make DataSure® Wireless Data Collection Systems, which we have integrated into an increasing number of special gages so measurement data can be gathered and recorded with 100% reliability. Simply put, our service and expertise are second to none – we control the entire process from concept through design, manufacture, inspection and delivery.

We encourage you to contact us directly to discuss your application requirements.

SPECIAL GAGE OF THE MONTH: PI GAGE

Pi-Gage for I.D. + O.D. Starrett Pi-Gages protect product quality by maintaining critical diameter tolerances of flexible parts such as plastic lids and containers, where shrinkage and temperature affect the parts during manufacturing. The diameter of these parts is vital to the sealing integrity between lids and containers. Designed to measure any flexible circular part, the Pi-Gage has been used for decades. It is the industry standard for accuracy, replacing the outdated 2, and 3-point systems.

I.D. WIRE The above is a handheld Pi-gage equipped with a wire sensor. This setup of the Pi-gage is normally used in the I.D. Configuration for gaging dimensions such as the lip seal diameter of plastic cup lids.

BENCH TOP HANDHELD The handheld Pi-gages are also offered in bench top variations. This Pi-gage is equipped with a digital indicator and a band sensor, which is normally used to measure the outer lip diameter of disposable cups.

AXIAL STOP BAND The Special Gage Division also offers a style of handheld Pi-gage with axial stops, an optional feature of the band sensor.

PI-PLATE GAGE FOR O.D. Each gage from the 2”- 4” range through the 10” - 12” range is quickly set to zero with the master provided as an option. Push the button on the indicator to insert a part and release the button to gage a part within +.025” diameter range from

PI-GAGES FOR BUCKETS Designed to measure large containers for food storage and buckets. These gages are also available in handheld and ID formats. These gages are designed to be dedicated to a specific diameter.

the master size. Featuring quick changes from size-to-size and ease of use will ensure process control. It takes less than one minute to set the band to a different master and zero the indicator.

Before manufacturing begins on your custom Pi-gage, a Special Gage Engineer will work with you and your team to ensure all specifications are met, and a written design approval is received.
