Doubet Ranch - Annual Bull Sale [3/31/26]

ANNUAL BULL SALE 03.31.2026 DOUBET RANCH

Greetings Cattlemen! Welcome to our sale catalog for 2026. What an amazing time in the cattle business! Record cattle prices continue to be set at sales across the country. Protein is back at the top of the food pyramid. Worldwide protein demand is up another 2%. Heifer retention and herd expansion hasn’t really started and many predict strong cattle prices through 2028. We have been working hard to make cattle and their genetics that are as problem-free and functional as we can make them since 1983, and we are confident they can enhance the long-term profitability of your ranching operation. After the winter of 2025, and in certain places in 2026, the calf vigor and will-to-live of Salers and Optimizer influence cattle make them a must-have as producers build back their cow herds. We have some of the top cattle producers in the country as our customers. If you are new to our program we’d love to add you to that list. As you will see when reading testimonials in this catalog, many of our customers have been with us for 10 to 20 years. They keep coming back because the cattle work and have made a difference in their ranching operation. As customer Joe Thomas stated in a recent article, “The Salers- influence cow makes it easy to be a better rancher.” Enjoy the catalog and let us know if you have any questions. See you March 31st in Billings. Thanks, Jim

Celebrating 20 years

with the Wilson Family

It was January 2006, when Jim and Willard Wilson approached Sherry and I and presented us the opportunity to buy a large group of their seedstock cows. It doesn’t seem like it could have been 20 years ago already. We had a group of registered cows, but this presented us with the chance to expand our numbers in a way that would have taken many years to achieve. Jim had worked to provide his customers with cattle that were right for the commercial cattleman. He also worked to have them fit what the feedlots and packer needed as well. They were in it from one end to the other with the feeder cattle brokerage business Willard, and then Jim, had worked on for years. The operation was focusing on their commercial herd and due to the size of their operation and labor limitations, the seedstock herd was offered to us. The Wilson cow herd was built on the best genetic and phenotypic inputs they could find. While some operations were just considering the Optimizer cow, Jim knew there was an advantage to running a crossbred cow in his commercial operation. The Salers-Angus cow offered pretty much all of the things needed in the cow business. He set out to breed the best of his Salers cows to the best Angus bull he could find to create the best Optimizer cattle he could make for his customers. This breeding philosophy definitely gave us a head start when we were able to pur- chase those 75 pairs of registered cows. Armed with as much data as you could have, we poured over records for countless hours. I was sure we needed to concentrate on younger cows – which we did – but it was too hard to pass up on those proven producers that had been there, done that and were subject to all the culling objectives that made it such a great program, and they were still there. Optimizers to Purebreds, we bought the best of the best from their herd.

With the Optimizer cow herd and Optimizer bulls, a commercial producer has the best of both worlds in a simplified crossbreeding program. Jim knew that. He knew how good these cows were: the calving ability, calf vigor, mothering ability, fertility, longevity, unmatched grazing and range utilization on the cow side. At the feedlot: gain, health, conversion and the ability to hit the quality grade targets at a better Yield Grade than most. I don’t have many regrets, but one I do have is only buying 75 pairs instead of 100. At the time, we thought that may have been more than we wanted to bite off financially (shoulda done it). The other is not spending more time picking Willard and Jim’s brain about the seedstock busi- ness. I continue to glean knowledge from Jim but I missed out on Willard’s wealth of knowledge and should have been in constant contact with him.

Now, Sherry and I have the distinct honor of selling their operation bulls – many that trace way back to some of those original 75 pairs from 20 years ago. Everyone gets some help along the way and we can’t thank the Wilson family enough for the opportunity they gave us! Thank You

EPD EXPLANATIONS

Calving Ease Direct (CED) , is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire's calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers. Birth Weight EPD (BW) , expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire's ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Weaning Weight EPD (WW) , expressed in pounds, is a predic- tor of a sire's ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Yearling Weight EPD (YW) , expressed in pounds, is a predic- tor of a sire's ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.

Maternal Milk EPD (Milk) , is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability. Stayability (STAY) , Predicts the probability of a bull’s daughters remaining productive until at least six years of age. Marbling EPD (Marb) , expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Ribeye Area EPD (RE) , expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

ASA GOLD SIRE & DAM

The ASA Gold Sire and Dam program recognizes Salers breeders’ top producing cows within a herd based on number of calves weaned per cow exposed and weaning weight of calves. Cows and sires can be recognized from any environment because the list is based on within herd performance. • Gold Dams must have had a calf before they are 2.3 years of age and calve within a 395 day calving interval which allows the producers to calve heifers earlier than the main cow herd. • Dam’s must have a minimum of three natural (non-ET) calves with an average weaning ratio greater than 105. • These are the top quality most efficient cows in a herd. Only 2% of the registered cows make the Golden Dam list. Gold Sires - Salers bulls can earn the title of Gold Sires by siring five or more Gold Dams. Gold dams and Sires can be identified in Salers pedigrees by an (*) behind each name in the pedigree.

GENOMIC ENHANCED EPDs

Doubet Ranch participated in the American Salers Association Cow Herd Genomic Project. We did our best to gather a tissue sample on every active cow and herd bull in our operation. Those DNA samples, along with every calf crop since, have been sent in for testing through the International Genetic Solutions group to help provide the most predictable EPDs to our commercial producers and ourselves in breeding future seedstock. In addition to genotypes the bulls in this catalog have been tested for parentage, color status, and polled status. This tool is a supplement to our very important production traits such as fertility, calving ease, mothering ability, grazing ability, and trailing ability to name a few. The Estimated Progeny Equivalent chart below give you some indication regarding what Genomic Enhanced EPDs can mean to you when purchasing a bull who has not yet had offspring.

Estimated Progeny Equivalents is the average number of progeny records it would take to see an equivalent change in accuracy from a genomic DNA test. For example, if a non-parent animal is genotyped, the accuracy of his/her EPD is akin to an animal that has already produced 25 offspring with a weaning weight record (see table below). Overtime, these estimates will change as statistical models are improved, the number of phenotypes increases, and the information from genomic data improves.

WHY OPTIMIZER?

Improved Longevity Doubet bred Optimizer cows consistently stay in production well past 10 years of age and often as long as 14 plus years. Their ability to breed back quickly year afater year is unmatched and the feet and udders stay as good as you’ll find. No Complicated Crossbreeding Program Use a Doubet Ranch Optimizer bull on an Optimizer cow and reap the benefits of producing fantastic progeny!

I see it at the scale in the fall, and on the closeouts at the feedyard. The performance and the effect of the Doubet Optimizer bulls in an Angus or Red Angus cowherd is astonishing. The problem eliminator you can call the Optimizer bull. They fix the feet and leg structure, increase fertility and calving ease and have good disposition. Most importantly your steers will fill the trucks with added weaning weight every fall. I’m sure after you use an Optimizer bull or two, you’ll be impressed. Everyone is. They’ll help overcome any issues in your cowherd. Every year, we contract all the Optimizer calves we can get our hands on. Our clients feeding these cattle attest to the performance they see on paper at closeout. They call and say “We want that set of calves back. They’re terrific”. The females are the bonus. Anyone who calves heifers knows first-hand the dramatic difference there is with Optimizer females. From a heifer to a standout cow in minutes – the transformation is amazing. Visit the pens and study the offering at the Doubet Sale. Give us a call with any questions about the sale offering. Then, call us where you’re ready to price calves or breeding seedstock. We’re always in the market. See you in Billings, March 31.

Sincerely, Dan Deichmann

He’s lot 1 for a reason and that’s all there is to it because without a doubt we believe that 92N is one of the most top tier herd bull prospects we have ever offered for sale. He has been the phenotypic standout at every point in his life and has never missed a beat. His density is big time; to put that much muscle and

rib cage power into a skeleton that still ties together so effortlessly on a structural base so athletic and sound is elite. His feet are really big and shaped the way they need to be. He is the first calf of a really nice Gold Standard daughter we call Queen 111L. We will be using him heavily in our AI program. Maintaining 1/2 semen interest. LET THE BIG DOGS EAT!

I don’t know that we could draw one up any better to have the look and presence he commands. So stylish and eye appealing up front with a true herd bull look but he transitions back into a massive center body skeleton. So bold in his forerib and deep hearted with a great turn back into his flank. The bull has a massive top and even bigger hip while pulling all that dimension down deep into his stifle and quarter. It really doesn’t matter what angle you study him from he is fantastic! Retaining 1/2 semen interest.

Mom bought into Legend at OKC with Monte Rowell and we used him AI in his first year. This guy was a quick ranch favorite, particularly following weaning where he was so easy to find in the bull pen. 72N is one of the higher percentage bulls in the sale and we are awfully found of him. He puts extra look and presence into a stout and very sound package. His balance is tremendous and we love his rib and body shape. He is an outcross pedigree for us and one we are excited to watch develop!

Three minutes... The calf vigor of Salers and Salers Optimizer calves is beyond belief for some that are new to using them The calves are up and nursing in no time. Our son, Cody, uses Salers and Optimizer cattle just outside Chillicothe, Missouri. He is a huge fan of all the maternal aspects of the cattle and came to value their calf vigor during the cold snap that hit much of the Midwest this winter. He had a cow calving and decided he would time it to see how long it was before the calf was up trying to nurse. Turns out it was 3 minutes from the time the calf was out until it was up to nurse! Talk about a will to survive! An invaluable trait to have!

Sign me up here! 24N has the look of his sire and is backed by one of the most impressive cows we have! She flat gets it done year after year and is a model cow for combining a beautiful front end with a big square hip and she breeds on her incredible feet and legs. Her proven production record back up his breeding value and man the bull himself is flat out good. Immense center body mass and power. He has a true herd bull look with that extra stoutness and muscle then pulls all that quality together on the move with tremendous structural integrity. ABSOLUTE SALE FEATURE AND HERD BULL PROSPECT! “The Salers-influenced cow makes it easy to be a better rancher,” Joe Thomas, Turnell Cattle Company. Having used Salers-influenced cattle since the early 1980’s, they know first-hand how well they work. From grazing at over 12,000 feet when they were at the Pitchfork, to their current location today, they have enjoyed over 90% breed up rates for some time. “We ended up at 93.3% last fall on the cow herd and 91% bred on the heifers. Most operations struggle with the breed up on their 3 year olds. We’ve seen that as high as 97% (in 52 days).”

She has become a donor now and we will be using her heavily as we move forward. He matches her body depth and balance with as much practicality and fleshing ability as you can find. Moderate framed with a progressively wide muscle pattern. If you keep your females or like selling high quality heifer groups, I can’t think of one better.

Getting It Done! Brewer Cattle Company, Clyde and Ryan Brewer, Melstone, Montana, have used our genetics for the last 20 years. “We’ve only bought bulls and used semen on bulls from you and Coleman Angus. These are the best set of heifers we have ever had on the place,” Ryan shared when I delivered their bulls last spring. They had 92% of their heifers come in heat to the AI. They love the fertility they are seeing with 80% of their cows calving in the 1st cycle. That makes for a super uniform calf crop when they start out with that many of them being similar in age and their calf buyer really appreciates it!

You can look pretty long and pretty hard to try and find a better heifer bull than this one right here. And oh man he does not sacrifice anything visually either. He has the right kind of rib and muscle pattern to complement his tight sheath and big testicle size. His mother is a very, very good cow that is such a pleasure to study in the pasture. Thinking about setting back some fancy daughters excites us with this one.

Exchange

Exchange was a standout early on as a calf and continued to just explode as he got closer to weaning. An amazing amount of rib and volume, super big top, great feet and legs. Sired by ECR Investment 822F a top gaining, super efficient, high marbling bull out of Midland Bull Test - the same sire as Gold Standard. Exchange is out of our prolific outcross donor 122Y. MJB Sun Goddess 122Y was a Gold Dam and just makes about everything you breed or flush her to a great one. His EPDs are Top 20% WW, YW and Milk, Top 5% for Marbling. MJB EXCHANGE 402K SA#:750878

He is masculine and clean up front with an awesome shape to his forerib and a very rugged presence. His mother is definitely one of dads favorite cows of all time if not his all time favorite. No guess work here, we’ve used his full brother heavily for several years and really like what he has done for us.
