King's Business - 1970-08

A t first glance, the small booklet with the attrac tively clean red cover gently persuades you to pick it up and read the message inside. It's entitled “ Here’s How,” and the chances are you’ve either seen it in your church’s tract rack or have read it and passed it along to someone, like yourself, who needed to know how to find the Lord and Saviour of your life. As one of the most successful tracts or booklets used in witnessing, “ Here’s How,” has enjoyed a total printing to date of more than 49 million copies and a total pass-along circulation of many millions more. Its success in telling people about the Lord of life is due to its author Ray W. Johnson, who early in his life assessed his abilities before God and ad mitted, “ I was a flop at witnessing.” A visit to Life Messengers, his publishing headquarters located in a converted warehouse overlooking Seattle’s Lake Union, convinces you that if he really was a failure at witnessing, God can do wonders through men who 16

thoroughly entrust their lives to Him. Huge, canvas mailbags are piled high at the en trance, filling requests for many of the 21 different booklets that Life Messengers publishes. Besides “ Here's How,” they print booklet testimonies and other witnessing helps, a modern translation of the Gospel of John, and semi-monthly newsletters of in terest to the dedicated, witnessing Christian. “ We are small, but choice,” Mr. Johnson says, as with a smile he welcomes you to his quiet study where he may be drafting the manuscript for another booklet. The firm distributed about 13 million book lets last year, employing a staff of ten full-time work ers who fill orders from around the world. “ Here’s How” and some of the other booklets have also been translated into many foreign languages, with heavy distributions in India and Indonesia recently. “ Our postage bill alone was $21,000.00 last year,” the kindly man with thinning, gray hair states. Most of the mailings are sent via third class mail. "A missionary I correspond with in Indonesia THE KING'S BUSINESS
