LET THE GAM AND SHOWS B

The blast of the bagpipes, the drumming of dancers’ feet on boards, and the shouts of contestants battling for glory….the sounds of a Highland Games are certainly distinctive and nothing embodies the passion of the Highlands quite like our summer celebrations. Whether your preference is for a test of technique and fitness (from sprinting to caber tossing) as showcased at a Highland Games, or a test of skill and dedication (presenting cattle or showcasing embroidery) as demonstrated at our Agricultural Shows, you’re guaranteed a great day out, a warm

welcome and plenty of locally- produced food and drink – just remember to pack your wellies. While a few are on a huge scale scale, most Highland Games are community-run events, and visitors are made welcome whether they want to join in the activities or watch a pipe band procession, browse stalls for local produce, or watching the Highland fling. Agricultural Shows are an opportunity for farmers and crofters to show off their finest stock, and for residents to compete to produce the best in home baking, handicrafts and horticulture. There is always a family element as well, with competitions for children and entertainment that might range from a falconry show to zorbing or horse and cart rides.
